WotC previews for January: Better Late Than Never!

Shade,

Items that resonate have always been around. Take for example, the Ring of Power. It resonated with other rings, but was also a power unto itself. The owner of all the Swords of Power had great strength when he had all of them together.

I think I'm less worried about them doing item sets than I am worried about the regular items some times. At least in terms of cool artifacts or something else near artifact level some times.

The 2E Diablo book was pretty darn good (much better than the frankly pretty dreadful Diablo II 3E books). If they file off the names of the D1 magic items and stick those in the compendium, it'll be a good thing indeed. (Doing the same with the monsters, which sometimes strayed pretty far from the actual Diablo ones, would be a good thing, too.)

My memory is foggy, but I also recall a set that involved Gauntlets of Ogre Power, Belt of Giant Strength, and the Hammer of Thunderbolts...or something like that.

Yeah that was from Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal. You needed all of those items for Castanir (think that was his name anyway) to make you an artifact hammer from them.

Some very cool stuff in that game.

Nope.
1st ed DMG
Hammer of Thunderbolts
..if the wielder wears gauntlets of Ogre power and any girdle of giant strength...and knows the proper name of the weapon .. it gains +5 [to hit and damage] double damage dice, all gauntlet and girdle bonuses (min +6hit, +13dmg) and when hurtled will strike any giant* dead ...

Now thats a set bonus!
