[WotC] Product Info and Release Schedule for Sept to Dec 03

I havent caught wind of how many uncommons or commons there will be, but with 30 rares Im sure most people will have all of the commons and uncommons once or twice over before they get all the rares! My guess would be 30 uncommons and 20 commons, even though it seems odd to have fewer commons than the other rarities.

Im also really looking forward to the Dragoneye expansion, its supposed to have miniatures corresponding to the Dragonomicon and Dragonlance Setting (which will be released shortly before it). Never can have too many dragon minis ;)

Actually, that makes perfect sense when you think about it. It's not about the total number of a rarity rating, its the per package distribution. Even if there are only 20 commons and 30 rares, when you buy a mere two entry packs, you'll statistically have 100% of the commons (though it won't work out exactly that way, since some will be doubles), but a mere 6.6% of the rares. It's how many are included per package, not the run number itself, that determine rarity.

Agreed, though the fact that the minis can only be corresponding to sizes Small, Medium, and Large seems to be somewhat limiting. I wonder if the dragon minis will break out of those...but I mentioned that in my first post. I'm also not too happy with how this expansion will be in with minis from the original either, since that makes it that much harder to track down the new minis.

After SVGames big sale I pretty much completed my chainmail collection (I have at least 1 of everything except some really out-there stuff like Dwarven Lightning Lancers) so I dont plan on buying more than an entry pack. Ill probably pick up some models on the secondary market though, especially some of those elementals!

As far as bigger for the dragoneye expansion, they may introduce a 60mm base size, but it took many releases of chainmail and they still werent there. I think theres a bit of a hole in the market for young dragons, and young dragons with levels can be tons of fun.

Mind if I ask you something then? What books of that do I need to get just the setting information? I'm not interested in playing Chainmail as its own game, but its practically a D&D setting in-and-of itself, all the more so since its set, AFAIK, on Oerth. Where can I get things like the location its set in, the history, major NPCs, and any other D&D stats it had?

They released 4 books, IIRC.

Blood and Darkness has some information about how the war has gone underground, and that is the main theme of Set 2. There is some setting information about how the factions are doing, etc.

Fire and Ice has information about fighting over dragon graves and bones, like the previous book it has lite-info on factions and story, heavy on rules-mechanics, new spells, strategies, etc.

Shadow of the Drow is more of the same, with information on how a rogue drow family (Kilsek) has traveled to join in the war over the god Stratis.

The biggest pull for regular playing from all these books could be the story info in the beginning (1-2 pages, per book) some of the descriptions of miniatures (preview of the next set), and the actual d&d stats for some of the models, found in the very back of the book.

The final book was The Ghostwind Campaign, basically a method of playing a string of battles to level up your 'warleader'. This has 3 pages of story in the beginning, about how the factions are wrestling over Stratis' first weapon BoneBreaker, and mostly provides scenarios on how to build up to the final battle. There is a large spell addition and a magic items section (both for use by the minis) as well as a breakdown on how to level up minis.

Overall, none of the books really lend themselves to the setting very well, but I agree, it was a cool backdrop for Chainmail. Perhaps they will revisit it at some point.

I guess I'll have to be the minority and say I am not excited about either new miniatures or new miniatures books or more combat rules. None of that appeals much to me as a roleplaying game.

Now, I'll probably pick them all up. My group really likes stuff like Heroclix, for example, so we'll probably like this stuff too. But I won't want to integrate it into my roleplaying. I'll see them as too seperate games.

I'd like someone to show me where it says that Dragoneye packs will overlap with Harbinger...

All it says is that the Dragoneye packs have miniatures from things in the Core Rulebooks. Meaning, if say, a Xorn doesn't appear in the Harbinger set, Dragoneye might have it...

While I'm sure many people will find the Sep-Dec releases useful, I am not one of them. For me personally, that is a horrendously uninteresting line-up. (And that's good news, actually, as I save a whack of cash. Woo!)

The only book I'll get is Underdark, since I run a FR game. None of the other books meet my needs.

Just out of curiosity what kind of books would you be interested in?
