WotC releases for March 2007: Cormyr, Magic Items, Star Wars RPG

I did, and may yet, consider buying the MIC simply because I haven't purchased a majority of WotC books in the last few years so I wouldn't be paying for things I already had in other books.

However if they strip them all of setting specific elements, that's going to be a major hit against it. The last thing I need is them stripping flavor from all too frequently too generic things.
I think it's more likely that they'll strip out setting-specific flavor, but add in descriptive flavor. This is what happened with the SC, and I think that's one of the best parts of the book.

Sign me up for the MIC and the Star Wars book. I hope there is some rewrite in the starship combat for Star Wars but I will most likely pick it up regardless.

Rewrite or revision/clarification? I like the tactical grid version over the original abstract diagram.

Well, they're putting out a ship combat miniatures game later this year, so I suspect that what ship combat is in the new game, will be tied in to that.

I'm guessing that they will be using the new magic item format in the upcoming Compendium, so I will probably have to look at it like the next Monster Manual IV. Too damn much fluff! Three-thirds of a book taken up by item background that isn't needed or that I could come up with myself is a little too much, in my opinion.

I assure you, there will be no lack of magic items. The format may be expanded, but not at the expense of having tons of items.

Now I'm scared. If the new starship minis combat rules are in anyway similar to d20 Modern, I'd stick to my RCR.

The Magic Item Compendium will be jumping to the top of my buy list when it is released. I'm a sucker for Magic Items. I still have all 4 2E AD&D Encyclopedia Magicas.

The phrase "Star Wars Saga" is a popular phrase used by Lucasfilm to refer to the whole of Star Wars.

This I'm sure you're right about.

The early word through the grapevine (some message board posts here and at wizards.com from the authors and people who have been in on it, saying what they can through NDA's) is that the "Saga Edition" is essentially a reprint of the Revised Core Rules with errata, maybe a few tweaks and some minor rules changes to reflect things from Episode III, and probably some info on more eras, so no big changes.

About this, I'm sure you're no better informed than anyone else. I know both the authors, who have flatly refused to talk about the product at all. All we know is that Owen and Rodney wrote it, and we can guess Chris Perkins and/or Andy Collins is developing it. Anything said by anyone else has no weight, and none of those people have mentioned it's level of revision in any forum, anywhere.

Make no assumptions, people. The original Star Wars came out before d20 Modern. There's no telling what they may have done. I personally suspect the new Star Wars Saga Edition will be d20 Modern compatable, without ever saying it is, so all the d20 future stuff can be tied in as expansion material.
