WotC Reveal Exodus, a New Video Game from the Decelopers of Mass Effect and Neverwinter Nights

Changeling are modifies Human species, the modified animals are called Awakened. The first Changeling type shown is sort of Centaur-ish.
Sorry . . . yeah.

I just started reading the e-book after listening to the first few chapters from the audio book.

Finn describes the changelings as humans genetically modified sideways to fill a niche, unlike Celestials who are genetically modified to push them ahead evolutionarily.

The genetically modified animals he refers to as himods, which includes de-extincts, experimentals, and Awakened.

The centauroid changelings Finn and crew encounter are the Moaksha, and they are weird . . . in a fun way!

Neat! :)

Celestials who are genetically modified to push them ahead evolutionarily.
In their opinion! (I am also reading the book and a few chapters in)

And also what each faction of Celestials considers "ahead" is clearly pretty varied and conflicting, illustrating the inherent fallacy of the idea that you can be "ahead" evolutionarily (it's survival of the best adapted, people!). I imagine this may be a theme in the game series.

Heh, yeah. Grandpa Aponi expresses his doubts pretty much right away as Finn gives us all the exposition dump on the Celestials! :)

The Centaurs do suggest that maybe the distinction between Awakened Animal and Changeling might be fuzzy in some cases, at least.

Here is the actual full new gameplay trailer:

It looks Mass Effect-ish to the point where you could honestly call it a "Mass Effect Clone" in the way people used to refer to "Diablo Clones", but they say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, and great artists steal and so on.

What does surprise me is that it doesn't just look like Mass Effect, but tonally, in the way the characters behave, the scenarios, the music, etc. it seems much more Mass Effect and much more "SPACE OPERA!!!!" than the setting and lore really suggested. Which is fine. Definitely not complaining. The main character looks a bit weird, but presumably that's just a default and Jun can actually be configured to look like what you want.

Also looks maybe further-along than we'd think from the timeline, possibly due to two "bonus" studios working on it alongside Archetype. I think late 2027 early 2028 is still most likely if they're really going for polish etc., but I wouldn't be shocked to see this out in 2026 if they're this far along. I suspect it'd be a bit unpolished if so though (some of the animations here are definitely a bit rough, including some of the mo-cap).

I thought Jun was hot honestly, which says something as it's rare for me to find other guys attractive.

But there will be options to customize the appearance including sex.

I watched the Secret Level episode for Exodus. It was fine if unspectacular, and the animation didn't really match the narration as well as one might expect. The time dilation was explained really surprisingly badly (they should have stressed the father was taking the "long way around", but they only make one vague and easily miss-able reference to that), which worried me briefly, but then I found out the episode wasn't written by the actual Exodus devs, or anyone associated with the project, bizarrely, but by Tim Miller who is in charge of the whole Secret Level project and who, frankly, is not a very good writer, and has had issues with narration/animation mismatches and poor storytelling in stuff he's written before for Love, Death and Robots (including a truly dire adaption of a JG Ballard short story).
