WotC stores: dead?

I've shopped at the WotC Store in my local mall many times... I loved the insane discount I was getting when they liquidated their 40K stock and then their d20 stock...

Maybe I should drop by and see if any of there own books are being liquidated now.

I use to love going to the "The Game Keeper" in San Diego, I never bought allot of stuff their but had fun looking...

Neither one of these stores makes me think d20 off the top of my head... "The Game Keeper” makes me think about puzzles and board games, and WotC was all about magic.

Not sure, actually...and couldn't find any where that said...so I'm assuming 64 may be ALL of them.

All the stores are being closed, probably regardless of whether individual stores were making money or not. The one in the Westminster mall seemed to do pretty well businesswise.

Is it just me, or do some of those comments seem rediculous?

From what I can tell, this will have zero impact on D&D, d20, and RPGs. I mean, what % of WotC stuff or other RPG stuff was being sold through WotC's stores, anyway?

I believe TSR never had a retail chain either. Didn't prevent me from getting products.

I get the feeling that the jackarse on there was probably from RPG.net ;)

I went to one of these stores years ago - I didn't understand why they had it - it seemed like a minor hobby store - and hobby stores already don't have enough business in many places. A store with even LESS appeal seemed doomed to failure.

Anyone have any idea if their be a sale? :D

It appears that some stores are simply packing up to be closed by January 1. Others seem to be holding sales (best I heard of was 30% off), but the merchandise was looking pretty lame (either shelfworn or simply undesirable). It doesn't look like all stores that will be open through Jan./Feb. are holding sales either.

I was hoping for a liquidation sale on WotC books... If they do it, I'll be finishing off FR, and Star Wars for sure. :D

I went and looked at the comments, and someone mentioned Hasbro selling off D&D.

...

!

This is the first I've heard of this, is it unwarranted, blah blah somebody reassure me that it won't happen :) My primary concern being that if D&D does change hands there will probably be a reprint of a lot of core stuff (4th edition) yadda yadda steal my money  And who else is around that would buy it, anyway? Parker Brothers? :p
