That's why Blizzard doesn't announce a release date until the project is done. There is always some frustration when there is an unforseen delay and you have to disappoint the customer base.

My memory may be faulty, but originally, this was supposed to be hobby-vahnnel only, wasn't it? The first we heard of it was the promo material sent to game stores, no?

It is not possible to keep it under wraps while courting stores at the same time. Stores understand that dates change, but they want to know the plan ahead of time.

It might kill some of my players' characters, though. (14 sessions into our AD&D game, we've had 4 PC deaths so far).

Wait a minute, wasn't the original PHB 128 pages. That means they've completely rejggered the internal formatting too with smaller font.

Or, looking at the others, they might have just swapped round the details of the PHB and the MM, which had 112 before, but now says it has 128. Very sloppy indeed.
