WotC_Rodney: Trap Fun!

In the photo, I love the black mat underneath the dungeon tiles! It really make the tiles stand out and give the feeling of solid walls around all the rooms.

I actually had the same idea and recently bought some black vinyl, which makes the caverns of the Underdark tiles look great. My only complaint about the vinyl is that it's a little shiny, and I would have preferred something really flat that absorbed ambient light.

Great game report, though, and I can't wait to try 4e combat.
Go to your local craft superstore (around here it's a chain called Michael's) and buy either a black blotter sheet or a sheet of black felt. Either are cheap and easy to find.

Mixing old school with 4E to catch us old school gamers off guard. A cunning trap. ;)

I'm in with those wanting to know if the rogue did this under core rules or if it was done using the source book rules being tested.

The rogue was core. I was playtesting stuff for an upcoming book with my character...and I won't reveal what class, lest someone figure out what I'm working on. :uhoh:

Black felt. Not only does it look nice, and roll up and store away nice, you can stick the hook part of velcro to the undersides of gaming tiles and they won't slide around at all (uh, that is unless you're using double-sided tiles, but the felt should still keep things in place if you're a little bit careful).

Regarding the black mat, I originally wanted felt. Believe it or not, I couldn't find sheets of black felt ANYWHERE! I tried Michael's and Wal-Mart. Walmart did have an assortment of soft, black material, but it was kind of "furry". The brand new Michaels here doesn't have a fabric section that I could find (which I thought was ridiculous). I could only find little sheets of felt (8" x 11").

So I got a yard of black vinyl from Wal-Mart. Like I said, the vinyl is a little shiny, but only from certain angles. To be honest, the dungeon tiles themselves are equally shiny and reflect light just the same as the vinyl, so it isn't a big deal. The added benefit of vinyl is that it's a little "sticky" so the dungeon tiles stay put pretty well.

I still wouldn't mind trying the felt, though. Can anyone say "where" in Michaels they found it? Like I said, I couldn't find a fabric section in my store, but it's a new store and pretty big, so maybe I just missed it. Thanks!

Do you have a store called "Jo-Ann Fabrics" in your area? That's where my wife picked up the (dark blue) felt for my game table. Cheap, too!

and Tornado Strike...thats actually a decent name...
No, it's not.

As pointed out by jmucchiello in this thread, Tornado Strike implies something involving circular motion or something hitting all the foes around you (like Whirlwind Attack).

Tornado Strike is in fact a remarkably bad name. It would be bad enough if it were just some kind of cool-sounding ability that tells you nothing about what it does... but in this case the ability name actually misleads you as to what it does.

I imagine Tornado Strike in-game as being something like this:

"The rogue ducked low underneath the soldier, she throws a cloud of dust into the air blinding the soldier while whirling around behind him battering and pushing him off balance with her hands and legs. As he stumbles about she whirls back infront kicking him square in the chest towards the trap."

When you consider this happening in a single round, 3-6 seconds a rogue doing that would look like a Tornado to me.

The roguew should be grateful the monster did not have dragons tail cut!!

On a more serious note, Rodney: Why are you not hammering away on the latest sourcebook for SAGA? Y'know, KOTOR guide? And I just got my starships of the galaxy delivered to day...my does it look sheek!! (can't wait to see the cover of kotor! Ihope its a lit lightsaber or something, would love to have a cover like that!)
