D&D General Would a feat be right for the ability to cast/use scrolls? (Nevermind)

I made it a skill check.

Casting Spells from a Scroll:

Arcane spells - Arcana
Primal spells - Nature
Divine spells - Religion

DC to cast is 10 + 2xSpell Level
Fail = scroll is burned up
Fail by 5 or more = Spell Scroll Mishap Table

In my defense, however...this section can be misleading. I assume the intent is to say language is not a barrier to casting a scroll spell thats on your list...but it reads as anyone who has language can do it. DMG pg 216. (and the caveat is that "its description says otherwise" in the magic item section.

Is that quote from the 2014 or 2024 DMG?

The 2014 rules made the distinction between "scrolls" (which anyone could read) and "spell scrolls" (which have to be on your class's spell list). But then there was only, like, one mention ever of a "scroll" (the scroll of protection). Pretty much every scroll that ever appeared in a published adventure was a spell scroll.

I'm not sure how the 2024 rules are handling it.

Ritual Caster looks like it could be used as an enabler for casting spells from scrolls.

I know it doesn't technically "give you a spell list" but it does let you learn spells from the "list" you chose when obtaining the feat.

@Horwath what do you think? (I would keep the spell failure chance from scrolls, if a regular caster has a chance of failure, a non-caster with just this feat could also fail)

The quote above was from 2024, DMG pg 216, since another poster used that DMG for reference.

2014 DMG, pg 139 says the same thing.
