Would you give your 2nd level party 30 thousand gold?

Would you give 2nd level characters 30,000gp?

No, I wouldn't give that much gold to such a low level party, 'connected to the plot' or otherwise.

Giving such low level characters access to such a high amount of wealth would increase my (the DM's) workload to keep things under control, with likely lower benefits than the work involved.

And as a D&D/d20 DM, I'm all about the reduced workload.

My d20 Star Wars group just (over the past two sessions) concluded a major bacta deal.

We - a group of 8 or so 4th- / 5th-level characters - raked in approximately 3 million credits.

Of course, we're working for the Republic, and it's technically their money, but it's ours to do with as we please, at least until the accounting gets done at the end of the mission.

So, what have we done with this huge windfall? We spent 20K credits apiece on clothes and accessories for two major parties thrown by a system noble who's suspected of having Separatist ties. We spent thousands on hotel rooms. We bought lavish host gifts. We purchased, programmed, and powered up two engineering droids and a loading / defense droid for our ship (which is also on loan from the Republic).

We're right now considering what modifications to make to our light freighter. Notice that we're considering modifications to an existing (and somewhat subpar) craft, and not "Buy our own merchant fleet" which we could conceivably do. Our mission doesn't really allow for it, though - and we like the ship we're currently in. The Blind Luck has character - and it's gotten us out of two near-run situations in one piece (an encounter with a Interdictor-style cruiser and the siege of Procopeia by Separatist forces).

In short, having the money for once in my RPG life to no-kidding act rich has been a breath of fresh air and a great time has been had by all.

Seriously ....

I've found that avoiuding playing with people like that is the key, but that's just me.
Sorry, but not all of us have pools of hundreds of players to pick and choose from, and all my players are also my friends, so not playing with them is an option that would result in not playing at all.

Besides, they are both very good roleplayers, they just like to abuse the system, if given the opportunity.

:D I agree with you there. Running d20 is a dream.

Preparing for, on the other hand...

Is also easy. Pull out the book of names for NPCs, get a few deatils about them, write down a few key plot points and a nice list of rumors, get feedback from the players on what they want to do, and if I have sopme spare time find a book I haven't used in years and find a way to fit it into the campaign. I never understodd what was so hard about preping for a game. I do the same amount of work prepping d20 as I did with Palladium, Star Wars, White Wolf, Buffy...anything.

I voted no. But in truth it's possible I might consider doing it. But if I did I would only do it once ever.
In other words I wouldn't make a habit of it.

Agreed. They aren't getting another 30k next week. Another funny thing they did was take a job guarding a carvan that pays a few gold a day. I find that very amusing.
