Heck, Dragonlance could go far due to the fact that it has a bunch of romances and strong female leads, so that it isn't just a big group of guys doing things :b

I really hope that the film industry is seeing what a WELL DONE fantasy film can do in the theatres, as opposed to poorly done jokes. Maybe then we can see more cool fantasy films on screen

It seems that you need to add a fourth option: Sure as long as it wasn't as bad as the latest 'D&D' movie.

If they concentrated on the story rather than the 'D&D' elements then it could be good. They need to make sure they don't confuse the mechanics of the game with the story. When the producers start mucking around with the mechanics and trying to make sure the (movie, series, novel) stays faithfull to the D&D rules I think it quickly 'geeks out' and loses a large portion of the potential audience.

The key is to remember that RPGs are supposed to be a mechanism, a vehicle, for story telling, not an end in of itself.

Of course, this is all my own personal opinion...

I would like to see it as a movie, but at the same time I fear what live-action would do to it. (I don't think they could do the dragons that well) An OVA based on dragonlance(Yes, I do think a dragonlance anime would be good) would be much better.

There's no question that DragonLance would make a better movie than the D&D movie...then again, some home family movies are better than the D&D movie.

Thinking about some of the visuals in DragonLance, the trilogy would come off much better as an animated series for the simple fact that it will cost MUCH less money, and have less time and trouble spent over special effects and actors paychecks, not to mention that even a film trilogy of up to 8 hours would cut out quite a lot--I'd like to see it kept mostly intact, and that means a miniseries not a movie.

AND FOR GOODNESS' SAKE DONT LET GEORGE LUCAS DIRECT IT!

I voted yes, but that would only be if it was LOTR quality. If it was another D&D: The Movie type venture, then by all the gods no!

of course, but if they followed the chronicles story line, then already it HAS to be better...

Dragonlance Movie....

I've been thinking about this one lately as well, as I recently read the Chronicles and Legends trilogies (I have to agree with a previous poster- Legends was much better than Chronicles, although I felt that both trilogies were pretty weak fantasy when compared to the likes of Tolkien or Robert Jordan). With that said, however, I think that live-action films of these books could potentially be quite entertaining. Now, who would your "dream actors" be for the various roles? Here's what I was thinking for my two favorite characters:

Raistlin- Johnny Depp. He's great at dark, gothic characters- he would play the wizard with considerable flair.

Kitiara- Angelina Jolie. Come on, who else? She's dark, hot, strong, crazy, has a twisted smile, would look fantastic in plate mail- Angelina would be a great Kitiara.

So, come on- who'd make the perfect Tanis? Laurana? Verminaard (perhaps Ahhnold?)? Help me out here!
