Would your group stop a woman from joining?

Would your group stop a woman from joining?

i can see why having a woman player might ruin the dynamic of your group (it's best not to assume, there are plenty of "fag hags" out there that have a lot more fun around gay men than they do around straight woman and men). women don't really work well in our group, for similarly bawdy reasons. cursing paladins, warriors who will mount anything and everything (femlae, male, living, dead, inanimate...), fighting things on little provocation, and next to no roleplaying of any consequence. we wouldn't bar a female from joining us, but it would take a pretty "special" gal to stay with us for more than a session or two. :D

Nah, this was an online game. We couldn't have had that same silly level of sex in a person to person game.

I am a girl and I want more girls to join my group. If I didn't want a person in my group it would have to be for a specific reason. In all honesty, I've met men and women I wouldn't want to game with because they were either just not nice people, didn't get into the game at all, or just have serious personality conflicts.

But banning someone just for gender? That's kind of silly.

Rise up my sisters and roll your D20 with pride! :p

The entire idea of stopping a woman from joining just because she's a woman (personality conflicts aside) has got to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of.

I think it's the "because she's a woman" line that you've hit on that some people just aren't getting. Every objection I've read--changing the dynamic, it's a frisky game, there's a lot of sex or cursing--is a personality objection, not a gender one. I've played with female gamers who could (and did) keep up with the rest of us in terms of inuendo, cursing, the works.

If you want to prevent a woman from joining due to specific personality quirks, that's more than fine, since you'd most likely prevent a man from joining for the exact same reason. But I find the idea of basing the decision entirely on gender to be ridiculous.

I would never exclude simply on the basis of gender, race or sexual orientation for that matter. Plenty of players wouldn't suit my game, but that probably includes as many straight white males (like me) as other varieties.

Edit: I would discriminate on basis of age though, I don't have an upper age limit but I prefer players to be reasonably mature, which normally means 18+ but of course varies hugely, I knew a very mature 17 year old Swede online and I once met an adult would-be player who seemed about as mature as a foetus.

Edit 2: IME an 18 year old player who's a student, studying & living away from home is probably a lot more mature than a 19 year old who's unemployed and living with his mother.
Yes, same experience here. While my core group was 30-something players, the two 18 year olds (one male, one female) I added were amongst the best role-players (and people) in the group.

(Calendar) Age, gender, and sexual orientation are irrelevent. But then again, I'm a liberal. :)

Our current group has 2 women, 2 gay men, 3 straight men and a transgendered man/woman. The only thing we don't have is a lesbian and a female to male transgendered.... Letting a woman into the group is NOT an issue.
Wow, that's friggin awesome, good for you! :)
