Wouldn't it be cool...

Not sure how many people here are familiar with Games Workshop, but several years ago I remember them running a world-wide scenario, where the outcomes of battles affected the future storyline.

How cool would this be for D&D?

WotC could release a scenario in Dungeon, for instance, set in the realms. Based on the results people have at home in their games, it could affect future Realms storylines.

What do you think?

I'm not sure I see how this would work... are you suggesting that people write in the outcome of the storyline, and the majority outcome becomes part of the metaplot? Or are you saying that all the parties involved have some simultaneous role to play (kind of like teams?). I don't know how one would manage to consider and blend all the disparate outcomes either way.

Something like this:

The drow are invading Waterdeep (or whatever). The PC's become involved somehow. They discover that within 4 hours, a drow mage will have stolen a powerful artifact and summoned a powerful Outsider to Faerun.

Individual groups could play the adventure and then send in a survey based upon it.

* Did the PC's stop the drow from stealing the artifcat?

*If no, did they prevent the mage from summoning the Outsider?

*How many of the drow wizards lackeys did the party kill in the process?

* Did any of the PC's do anything else remarkable during the adventure?

Based on these answers, the story is told (a majority rules thing).

This is just an example, but it should show you what I mean.

A few years ago, Fasa released a book with some adventures (can't remember the name, have it somewhere on my shelf though). The last of which had something to do with the "Srolls of the elements". Game masters were invited to submit the results of their adventure (who was alive, which faction ended up with the scrolls, ...) I'm not sure what happened with this plan under the current Fanpro regime...

IIRC this is basically what happens with the L5R CCG. Maybe someone who's played it can fill in the details.

Actually, you are right, I had forgotten about that. All I know is they held 'story tournaments'.
