Wow...I'm dumb.

Well I believe if you have 1 or more negative levels from level drain or some similar effect you count as lower HD for effects that count HD. That might be the idea behind current HD.

Thank you everybody...but I have another question.
This is my first time majorly dealing with spells.
I have a level 20 Kender...and when the description of the spell says "lasts for 1 round/level", does that mean the level of the Kender, so it lasts for 20 rounds? I assume I'm correct...but we all know what assuming does...

Yes, it does mean that if a 20th level character cast a spell that its duration is 1 round/level, it would last for 20 rounds.

It sounds to me like you a pretty new to gaming. Perhaps you should start with a lower level character instead of an epic level one.

I'm not so much new to gaming, but new to DM-ing.
I've never used a spellcaster, or worried about HD's and things.
But now I'm DM-ing, and wanting to make sure I'm doing it correctly...haha.
The level 20 Kender is an NPC...he isn't going to show up for a while, I'm just debating about what spells to take, and I need to know what it means...haha.

Thank all of you for your help, I'm sure I'll have more questions soon.

Level in the spell description usually refers to caster level, which is the level in the spellcasting class the spell belongs to.

If you are a 10th-level Wizard/10th-level Rogue, the spell would last 10 rounds, for example, since your caster level is 10 (equal to your Wizard level).

There are modifiers, which can alter caster level, of course, that's just the basic one every (full) spellcaster gets.

Bye

Level 20 what? You need to tell us the kender's class(es). The race is (practically) irrelevant to your question.

Frex:

Ftr 10/Rog 5/ Scout 5

Wiz 5/Clr 8/ Rog 5/ Arcane Trickster 2

Etc......

If so: Start with an adventure for 1st level PCs (and thus low level NPCs). Really.

QFT. The game can be quite different and much more complicated from the omnipotent side of the screen. Wading in slowly is the best bet, especially if you don't have experience running other games.

I agree with these guys. One of my newer players wanted to try DMing a while back. I told him he should try a low level published adventure. He would have none of it. It really did not go well, and there was some hurt feelings as a result.

Also, are all of your PCs L20? One thing players really hate is uberNPCs....

I just created a level 20 Kender Bard...all twenty levels in Bard. He isn't going to be in the campaign for quite a while, but I was bored and decided to create him.

And yes, all my characters are low level, and so are the NPC's.
