WOW, my players asked for Vorpal weapons to be nerfed

Yup, they said that Vorpal weapons are to powerful so they asked if I would nerf them down a bit. I said yeah. It can still kill you in one hit, but I also added chances for hands, arms legs and feet to be removed. There has only been one threatened roll on a vorpal sword, I missed but they were scared.

If you are wondering they now have a Elf Bladesinger Death Knight with the Sword of Kaz who now wants them dead :D

Any of you out there ever have players just ask for a power or spell to be nerfed down??

Well, kind of. I play about as much as I DM, and I prefer certain effects like Harm and Vorpal to be nerfed when I'm on both sides of the screen.

As a player I told the DM we needed to alter Haste. I had a player ask that Harm be thrown out when he got access to the spell. I had another player take a toad familiar for his Sorcerer but wanted the ability of +2 con changed to +2 to jump.

I just noticed in d20 Modern last night that the "new Toad" gives +3 HP. Period.

Big difference...

Actually, I've had players ask me to nerf some of the new vampire abilities I allow the NPC vampires. They're all based off of Vampire:the MAsquerade disciplines. And some of them get pretty nasty.

Other than that, I've nerfed Vorpal like Dagger75 did, and I've put a 100 damage max on Harm. And I'm going to just plain murder the dual-wielding paladin in my epic campaign(Nobody should be able to deal a virtual God(A Super Epic Vampire based off of Dracula in the Castlevania games) 400+ points of damage in 1 round! Nobody!

My players complained when I introduced Grim -n- Gritty and my homebrew low magic rules into the game at the start of the new campaign. But now they like them, even better then the core rules.

The only time I was ever asked to nerf is when I accidently gave someone a +5 sword of lightning at 3rd level. When I handed out the sword I grabbed the wrong page out of my magic weapons binder and handed it to the PC. My personal policy is that I never take something away once I give it to the PC unless the story dictates it, like the sword gets broken in battle. So I let the PC keep it. After about three sessions he saw the trouble I was having challenging him without killing the rest of the party and he donated the sword to his local church, he was a paladin. They rewarded him with a +1 sord of cure minor wounds.

I just think vorpal needs a Fort save of some kind. Even something as horrible as the damage it would have done after the crit would be more balanced. Kinda like the coup de grace maneuver.

Yeah , thats me. As I posted in are you killer DM thread, I stated I am a creampuff. I can't find the link sorry.

To be fair I have used harm on them a number of times and killed a party member with it. I would have killed the big bad fighter had I not MISSED THE TOUCH ATTACK, TWICE, IN A ROW. My dice betray me at every turn.

My problem is I either make the combats way to easy or way to hard. I have entered new territory with all this high level stuff.
