Wu jen = elementalist ?

Didnt I notice a prestige class or base class called Elementalist? They were allowed to pick spells from all classes so long as it remained in their element, divine or arcane? It was a long time ago that I read this elementalist, it might have even been a dragon mag. Am I correct in thinking these two classes are one in the same? Or am I just recognizing the similarities?

Would your game group allow Sorcerers access to wujen spells? Or would that make them over the top?

Refering to the OA Wu-Jen, I would say that Wu-Jen are just oriental wizards with a twist. Now in the Unearthed Arcana they have a "generic spellcaster" class that works almost like a sorcerer and has access to spells from any list. As such, allowing wu-jen spells for sorcerers doesn't make them over the top IMO.

Anyway, my wu jen are elementalists. I've renamed the class. I've also toyed around with the spell list, so the five elements are the four classical ones (air, earth, fire, water) and magic (the magic element being for all your metamagic needs: abjurations, detect magic, break enchantment, analyze dweomer, and so on).

I allow the Extra Spell feat to pick up spells from other classes' spell lists, as long as it's the same type of magic. A Sorceror or Wizard could pick up Wu Jen spells that way.

Otherwise, I wouldn't allow it-- classes have separate spell lists for a reason, and I think it's a fairly compelling reason.
