WW's "Top Secret" project

I think Zappo and Simon Magalis are right about fan reaction to d20fying Vampire. But, this kind of thing has never made sense to me; it's not like the GURPS versions of WW's games somehow obviated the originals. In fact, I'd say GURPS was even less like Vampire or Werewolf than D&D/d20 is.

I doubt that the advent of Vampire d20 will mean the demise of Vampire ST. What Vampire d20 means is that WW has seen the success of the d20 experiment through their Sword & Sorcery brand. They are betting that if they make all the World of Darkness games into d20, they will attract more business.

If the fans get bent out of shape just on principle, then to heck with them. Maybe they like GURPS Vampire better?

I dunno; I would probably have a similiar reaction if d20 was suddenly dropped in favor of Storyteller D&D. :) However, it would surprise me if White Wolf fans went nuts over introducing d20 Vampire and it didn't change a thing about Storyteller; as a mature adult, you just say, "Eh," and you continue with your Storyteller Vampire system.

Maybe they are in negotiations for WotC to buy the rights to Scarred Lands, or to license rights for producing adventures for it. They might even see its popularity in Sales figures, and want to develop it themselves.

THEN you might see some fans like Dr. Midnight gearing up for battle. :)

As a D&D player who has played a little V:TM, I would welcome the introduction of Vampire d20. I prefer the d20 system to the ST system.

I know there are a others on the boards who feel the same way. This was brought up in a recent thread, though I can't recall which off the top of my head.

Heck, they did it with GURPS... they might as well give it a shot, if only to satisfy those Vampire players who like the d20 system better.

Myself, I would like a Vampire d20 book. The World of Darkness is fun (a bit silly sometimes, since it's so much hodgepodge you wonder how all these weirdoes are still secrets, and you also wonder if the real monsters are not the plain humans, who seem to be a minority), but it's fun. But the rules, ow, the rules... They don't rule. I think they voluntarily sucks, to disgust people from using game-mechanic-handled interactions and thus concentrate on actual roleplay, but from experience, I know it's not true. At least not for us. We have the same rollplay/roleplay ratio in the WoD than in any other RPG. The only difference with D&D being that we don't enjoy rollplay in the Storyteller's system. The Rule of 1, notably, makes the whole scenes ridiculous. I have thought of adapting the Exalted upgrade of the system to correct that.

It's not a rational thing. There are numerous Vampire players who just plainly HATE d&d, claiming that it is the game of mindless hack'n'slash which rules can only do hack'n'slash and that only hack'n'slashers can enjoy. Not all of them, and probably not even a majority, but there are quite a lot.

I have played D&D and Vampire, even though I don't like Vampire (I don't like the mood and certain nuances of the system). I wouldn't buy a Vampire d20 book, but I would give it a look, and listen gleefully at the screams of anger. :D

I don't think it would be a good commercial move by either WotC or WW, though.

So what are they going to do? Stop playing Vampire ST? I doubt it. It'd be a good move for WW because it would bring more D&Ders into the WoD (which has got to be a huge attraction, since there are so many more D&Ders than any other type of gamer) and its a good move for WotC because it will bring some STers into d20, and will sell like hotcakes amongst fans of both.

I hardly think the complaints of a vocal minority of folks who are going to whine and complain and then simply do exactly what they've been doing all along and buying exactly what they were going to buy all along anyway is hardly something either company needs to worry about.

I think that Exalted is the only logical choice here. I have not bought Exalted, simply for the fact that I DESPISE the ST system, but from looking though it at the store, i found it to be a very interesting setting.

If the WoD setting(s) were to be made d20, then I would probably get those as well, mix it up with the d20 Modern (i.e. Shadowchasers) and maybe a touch of Cthulhu D20 (not that I've seen that yet :)) and have a really horrific world for the Shadow Chasers to live in! :)

I think it's a little far-fetched to say that WW would want to change any of their existing product lines to d20, I would be willing to bet that it has to do more with wanting to do something WotC has a license for, that WW whats to publish as a d20 product.
