X - the anime movie

First Post
Hey everyone,

I was just given the movie "X" an anime flick for my birthday, and not sure whether or not to keep it. I have a gift certificate, so I can return without prob. Has anyone seen the flick? Can anyone recommend me keeping it or returning it?
Thanks!

X the movie? I think you can do without it. Essentially, it tries to condense a, what, 17+ manga series (I think it's that long) into one movie. As you can expect, plenty of cutting on the storyline and character development. It can get very confusing if you're not familiar with the storyline. Even then, I didn't like it.

Personnally, I recommend X the TV series if you can get it. About 24 episodes and the story is much better drawn out, more in depth and more entertaining.

Oddly enough, the ending to both the movie and the tv series isn't what CLAMP originally planned, as both the movie and the tv series created their endings as the manga series continued.

The manga is still continuing. It's not done yet, so we don't know what CLAMP intends to do for a finale.

That said, the movie is okay. Very abstract, very bloody and a bit over-the-top. I rather enjoyed it... but the series is far, far superior. It's 8 DVDs long, though, so much more expensive.

Personally, if you've got the cash and are willing to take the chance, I'd pick up the series DVDs. You won't be sorry. :)

Is the series drawn by the same person(s) that did the movie? I liked the movie's visual style. How do visuals in the series compare?

I enjoyed the movie, but it left me wanting more... so I guess I will probably end up picking up the series just to be satisfied :)

I'd say trade it for something better. X is one of those movies that you can watch and be amazed just for the quality of the animation, but even that doesn't hold for repeated viewings. Go get the TV series, or just pick up the manga.

It's not the same art team, but the style of the movie was based on the style of the original comic. The series does the same thing, so they have similar looks.

If you enjoyed the movie, I think you'll love the series. Though, of course, the movie does give away a major plot point of the series, and some of the characters are very different.
