D&D 5E Xanathar's for a specific setting according to Mearls

"No, you'd just need a "core supplement" of sorts to bridge the gap between core 3 and the setting; Xanathar's for a specific setting"

I thought it was going to be more like Volo's Guide to Monsters, a generic D&D book peppered with some FR and rarer other setting references.

Here is to hoping we get some good FR beyond Xanathar himself.

It's a weird statement to make and reads curiously even in context.
The problems with rapid twitter conversation really: you're trying to reply quickly, but also concisely to get through the character limits.

I don't think he was actually talking about Xanathar's Guide so much as using it as an example. That is, when they get around to doing Eberron, they'll put out a book along the same lines as Xanathar's, but specific to Eberron.

I doubt Xanathar's Guide will be any more FR-specific than Volo's was.

I think by "Xanathar's for a specific setting," he meant "a mechanical expansion book, like Xanathar's Guide, but for a specific setting." Implying that Xanathar's Guide itself is not for a specific setting.
