While it's certainly a good culinary idea to stabilize the population under the global resource consumption level, I still feel people should be allowed to complement their human diet with fries. How many potatoes would be needed to serve with a meal of half the human population?

No lie, I was asked to go put my largeish dining group “on the list” at the front for a place that didn’t accept reservations and was very busy. I put us on the list as “The Donner Party”, and actually slightly inflated our group size (aided slightly by a couple people who were not hard confirmations and hadn’t arrived). Our group was actually gathered close to the front, so we could hear each convo with the person controlling the seating.

When each “latecomer” called and said they weren’t coming, I went up and revised the size of our group downward, “The Donner party is down to 9.” “The Donner party is down to 8.”

By the time we got down to a party of 7 (the 6 who showed up plus a fictional 1), we were chuckling. So were some of the other customers.

I feel like you are building directly on Jonathan Swift's work with your suggestion, as Irish people and potatoes are just a natural pairing. Perhaps with a pint of Guinness.
