Xp Awarding question.

I've always looked at the left hand of the chart, and gotten the level (Let's say 10), then crossed over to where it meets beneath the CR (Let's also say 10), and then take that number, divide it by the party number, and that's how much xp each member gets.

I'm doing it right, right?

How's it handled in the FRCS?

You don't use the average party level at all. Say you have a party of four people, levels 10, 11, 12 and 13. You go down the list one by one, starting with the first. Find 10 on the left, then the CR on the right. Divide that amount of XP by the number in the party. You do that for each individual member of the party.

The FRCS method gives more XP to lower level characters because the fight was harder for them, while higher level characters get less because the fight was easy for them. With the DMG method, its almost impossible for lower level characters to catch up. The best example is when a player's character dies. If they are allowed to come in with a new character, but at a lower level, the DMG method makes it almost impossible for them to catch up. So, it effectively punishes new characters that are lower level than everyone else, even though the game is more difficult for them.

However, I don't see how a lower level party would get more xp, if all of them were the same level.

Say you have four people in a party, and they're all 10th level. Their party level is 10th. If the CR is 10, they get a certain amount. If the CR is 11, they get more. If the CR is 12, they get more.

Ok, I think you're misunderstanding.

If a party consisting of levels 4, 5, 5, 6 (average party level 5) should fight a CR5 monster then each of them gets 1000/4 (I'm not sure what a CR5 monster would give to a APL 5, just using 1000 as an example).

If you do it as per the FRCS, then the level 4 person might get 1200/4, the level 5 people would get 1000/4 and the level 6 person would get 800/4. See how the lower level people would get more XP and catch up?
