Just imagine a high-level cohort with the leadership feat himself, and a decent leadership score, whose cohort has the leadership feat himself, with decent charisma...
Still won't give additional XP for defeating that encounter? I would at least raise the CR of the prime leader severly.
(I am glad I don't have to worry about such things in my game, I do not use XP, especially XP per encounter, anymore)
