[XPH] converting a monk/seer?

Plane Sailing

Astral Admin - Mwahahaha!
One of the PCs in my game is a monk/seer.

From the sound of it, the default psion being only INT based would have a major, major, major impact on his character.

For those that have the book,

a) does it give any hints for converting older version characters (I don't expect so!)

b) Do you think he would be best off converting to a monk/psychic warrior, or what?

His current powers are:
1' Level
Destiny Dissonance
Spider Climb
Matter agitation
Lesser body adjustment

2' Level
Recall Pain
Sensitivity to psychic impression
Animal affinity

3' Level
Ubiquitous vision
Fly
Whitefire

4' Level
Fate of one
Inertial Barrier

What do you think will be the best bet for him?

a) No.
b) I would just rule that he manifests off of Wisdom instead of Intelligence, like psychic warriors do. His power list is going to have to change, though.

I have a githzerai monk seer in my game as well. Now his race gives -2 to int, the primary manifesting attribute for psions, and int was his worst stat as well. I am going to offer him two choices: convert the seer to psychic warrior or let wisdom govern his psion manifesting instead of intelligence.

He only had one level of Monk (for the wisdom synergy in defense mostly!) so I guess what will make most sense in this case is to allow him a once off example of manifesting using Wisdom.

Thanks for the help guys.

I don't know what powers are on the general psion list, but someone kindly posted the specialist lists in this thread http://www.enworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=83334&page=4&pp=25

I wonder what happens to his powers?

1' Level
Destiny Dissonance (still listed as Seer 1)
Spider Climb Does this still exist?
Matter agitation Does this still exist?
Lesser body adjustment Does this still exist?

2' Level
Recall Pain Does this still exist?
Sensitivity to psychic impression (Still listed as Seer 2)
Animal affinity (now an egoist power, so presumably disallowed unless gained via feat?)

3' Level
Ubiquitous vision Does this still exist?
Fly (now a 4th level nomad power, so presumably disallowed unless gained via feat?)
Whitefire (unless this has to be replaced by one of the kineticist powers (at a feat cost) is there a generic psion area damaging power?)

4' Level
Fate of one (gosh, bumped up to 7th level!)
Inertial Barrier (looks like this is on the kineticist only list too?)

So although I don't know what is on the general psion list it looks like the following powers survive unchanged:

1st level: Destiny Dissonance
2nd level: Sensitivity to Psychic impressions (possible feat for animal affinity)
3rd level: none (!)
4th level: none (!)

Are any of the things on the general psion list likely to fill in the gaps?

What does "Fate of One" do now to bump it up to a 7th level power?

Cheers

Spider Climb - now Wall Walker, a 2nd level psywar power. Which is really odd, because psywars also get Levitate as a 2nd level power, and why would you ever take Spider Climb over Levitate?

Matter Agitation - 1st level general psion/wilder power.

Lesser Body Adjustment - is now Body Adjustment, a 2nd level psion/psywar power

Recall Pain - now Recall Agony, 2nd level psion power.

Ubiquitous Vision - still there at 3rd level.

Whitefire - replaced by energy powers.

"is there a generic psion area damaging power?"
Energy Bolt and Energy Burst (both 3rd lvl), although Energy Ball would be the closest match and it's kineticist-only.

"What does 'Fate of One' do now to bump it up to a 7th level power?"
Well, it's now an immeadiate action (so you can use it even when it's not your turn), but otherwise it's unchanged.

Thanks for the information Spatula.

FWIW Fate of One could always be manifested at any time (since you don't get to roll many saving throws on your own initiative!) I can't imagine why they bumped it up to level 7 on this basis and will probably move it back down to level 4 unless I can think of some brilliant reason for putting it up to 7.

For the other powers, it is nice to see that there is a fair range of his originals which are still available to him (and I'm sure that the new scaling ability is likely to make all manner of things more valuable than they were before)

Cheers

You have a point, although technically in 3.0 you wouldn't be allowed to manifest a power when it's not your turn (aside from the 3.0 Power Touch feat), even a quickened power.

The level 7 thing does seem a bit extreme. Perhaps they were comparing it with the Moment of Prescience spell, which is around the same level and serves a similar purpose IIRC.

Yes, and there are TONS of 1st level powers that I could see as being very useful to a monk/psion (assuming that he actually wades into combat).
