You know, going through the Math Break reminded me of the old Monster Mark system (all the way back in White Dwarf issues 1 and 2... gods I feel old!) Their system was to give a creature 2 scores, one was how many rounds he could be swung at by a level 0 fighter with a longsword and survive, the other was how much damage he would deal to the unarmored AC 10 level 0 fighter in that amount of time. I used it all the way into AD&D 2nd ed.
