(YBA) Moth in Red Star Valley

Moth catches his breath and stares down at the fallen goblins. "So strong they are, for such little things," he says to himself. "Their elders must be dangerous indeed."

Pulling up some vines, Moth knots them around the goblins' limbs, then whispers to the vine-spirits, beseeching them to hold the creatures fast. He smiles when the vines twitch, knotting and re-knotting themselves of their own accord. He then starts a small fire and makes himself a poultice for his wounds, then gathers up berries, nuts and mushrooms for his meal while waiting for the goblins to awaken.

*As you sit and wait.... the weather changes from warmer than normal... to frigid cold and gusts of wing keep the cold air moving....... you wait a while longer and the eldest of the two young goblin awakes...... you may question him now if you wish.....*

"So, little one," says Moth over a mouthful of toasted mushroom, "it looks like our situations have reversed, eh? I'd like to know what's going on in this valley. You probably want to be freed. Perhaps we can help each other, eh?"

He picks up the metal ball and examines it while waiting for the goblin's answer.

* the goblin is quite and still for a while.. then shivers quite a bit....then speaks....*

"I'm freezing...move to over to the fire and Ill tell you what I know......"

"Very well," says Moth. He sets the ball down and drags the bound goblin-child over to the fire. "Now, what do you have to say?"

*after he stops shivering....... he starts to speak.....*

" all I know is.... we are having problems with the Red Star Monks..... we too trade with them....furs... baked goods and the like..... we think it is you humans who made them stop comming around and made them stop trading with us..... most of our village is starving beacause we don't have the baked goods trade with the monks anymore....and they gave us grain and the like to cook with..... what we make is not enough to feed us all.....so we vowed not to let any human in sight live...... is this true though....are you the ones to blame for the monks absense????"

Moth laughs at the thought that he might have laid low an entire monastery. "No, little one, I have nothing to do with this; I have been sent to learn of their fate, nothing more." Then Moth pauses as a thought strikes him. "When you say that you think humans are responsible for what happened to the monks, do you mean that the monks are not human?"

"you are smarter than you look human.... the monks could be considered the goblins cousins..... they are lizardmen.......powerfull ones at that.... if the humans aren't to blame for this..... then t stop the monks dead in there tracks.... something mighty powerfull must be to blame...... listen...... if you untie us and let us go.... we will let our tribe know it was not the humans who did this..... you never know.... we might even led a helping hand....... but I'm promissing NOTHING..."

"That's fair," says Moth. With a prayer to the vine-spirits, he swiftly unties the two goblins. "I'm off to see what's happened to these monks," he says. "Enjoy the fire." With that, he continues on down the path.

"Funny that the villagers never said anything about lizard-men," he mutters to himself as he goes. "Well, goblins are notorious liars, aren't they? We'll see the truth soon enough." Examining the metal sphere further, he walks onward, wondering what he might encounter next.

*As you travel onward.... the weather changes again the a warm humid temp....... as you make you way down the path...... you noice what looks to be window shaped openings in the cliff face that lines the path to your right............ every once and a while you'll swaer you saw little pairs of eyes staring at you.... but when you look they're gone........ you come to almost a hairpin turn in the path........ as you rond the bend...... you see a what looks like a huge rat.....but he's standing.... on two legs!!! and he lunges at you.....
