(YBA) Some New Powers to be Looked Over

Rathan

First Post
Here's some powers I whipped up.... hope you like at least some of them.....:D

Epic Powers:

Fast Learner:
Requirements: None
Cost: 6 exp
This epic power allows you to learn skills for one less exp shown to a min of two 2 exp points. For example, to learn Poison blade would only cost you 2 exp instead of 3. It will not lower the costs of any skills with 2 or less skills points to buy...such as Shove. Ki/Chi does not count if bought in bulk seeing as each Ki/Chi is bought seprate. This skill is only able to be taken once.

Reflect:
Cost: 6 exp
This epic power allows reflect your opponents damage delt to you back at themselves. This is to be used after damage had been delt. This Power is usavble one per adventure (i.e. Once per thread or chat session). This skill is only able to be taken once.

Reg Skills:

Priest's Blessing:
Cost: 5 exp
Requirements: Must be a Holy Warrior and have Holy Strike
This skill blesses you with the touch of a holy man. It inflicts 1extra hit of damage to a successfull attack aginst any undead. This skill is only able to be taken once.

Weapon Smith:
Cost: 5 exp
Requirements: Mastery in one or more Sig or Loc Being Made
You may purchase weapons or items blessed with a Sig or Loc you know for two less yen per level, (Example: If you have the Mastery in a Phoenix sig style... you may pruchase a wepon of item that give a bouns to Phoenix moves at 2 less yen per level. 3 yen for +1, 8 yen for +2, 13 for +3 and so on). This skill is only able to be taken once.

Armorer:
Cost: 4 exp
Requirements: None
With this skill you are able to pruchase armor and protective items for 1 less yen per level. 4 yen for +1, 9 for +2, 14 for +3 and so on. This skill is only able to be taken once.

I think Fast Learner, Weapon Smith, and Armorer are much too powerful.

I do think that Reflect (raise cost to 7 exp maybe) and Priest's Blessing are all right though.

Just my 2 copper :)

Fast Learner: Within 5 levels you start to get more exp from it than you spent for it. Simply way too good.

Reflect: A good power. I like it, because it has an interesting symmetry with Fated. To nullify that big attack, or to make him take the same amount? Both produce the same relative change in hits. Though this actually allows you to finish off opponents... if an opponent ever gets down to 1 hit left when you have this power, either way they lose :).

Priest's Blessing: A decent if narrow power. How useful it is all depends on the GM. Seems fine to me.

Weapon Smith and Armorer: Not a good idea, IMO. Weapons and armor should cost the same for everyone, and powers like these that change that are a bad idea.

With the exception of wicht and myself..I don't see many items gained by winning fights... most items are bought between adventures ot in adventures.... so..... this is why I made the new skills.... that and we have alot of new players in YBA....I just thought these skills could help.......

Weapon Smith/Armourer: May not be good powers, for the reason Graydoom says, but they aren't overpowered, you only in current YBA buy a weapon for any given style once, or maybe 5 times if you slowly work your way up, a net saving of 5 yen is hardly impressive. Armourer (if it applies to shields) could theoretically save you 15 yen, still not particularly impressive.

A couple things.

First, the intention for both Fated and Reflect is for them to only be able to be taken once, correct?

Second, we need to decide now how Reflect works when the opponent has some sort of damage reduction ability (the only example at this point would be energy drain). IMO, the damage should not be reduced by anything -- it should just get dealt back equally, regardless of any possible modifiers.

Third, should a fighter be able to use Fated to nullify the damage from Reflect? IMO, you should be able to.

Fourth, after the above issues are resolved, is everyone OK with the current cost and requirements of the powers? Personally, I think they're fine as they are.
