Yes, 'The Algorithm' REALLY IS Like That

The direction is good and the demand for age restriction is sound. It’s for companies to implement it. They need to act accordingly to comply.

So, the problem is that this isn't a simple implementation question.

Proof of age is based on government documentation of individuals, not private systems. If that documentation is not up to snuff for digital use, then the requirement cannot be met by the private sector.

Or, more simply, there is no current working digital ID standard for private companies to implement.

So Facebook only became social media after the algorithm reached a certain threshold of toxicity, and if the problems with the algorithm were fixed, it would cease to be social media?

What was Facebook prior to this point, and what would it theoretically be afterwards, if not social media?

And, moreover, how was it measured to be over the threshold? What metrics of toxicity are used.

If this is to be used as a concept for regulation, "Scribe says so," won't be a functional basis of operation.

OK. I find calling a message board and Twitter both social media, about as helpful as saying Water and Molten Steel are both liquids, but hey, carry on.

But, that, in fact, is the very point we need to focus in on. When you want to control a thing, its actual nature matters.

Basically, it is as if you were complaining about liquids, when your actual problem seems to specifically be with liquids that are over 2500 degrees Farenheight.

Not all liquids are over 2500 F. If you don't recognize that, you risk focusing on pipe regulation, when you really need heat protection.

What is it you do on these forums, again?

I neither enforce age restrictions, nor act as a government regulatory standard that can be referred to in court to force companies to comply with desired norms for the public good.

Maybe the passive-aggressive jibes aren't going to serve you well here.

Maybe don't assume the motivations/state of mind of other posters, please and thanks.

I don't have to assume much, when I can look at the Warning Points accumulated that record long-standing patterns of behavior.

Please ask yourself if you really want to test how much patience that history earns you before you continue.
