I've been tempted to try and run an online game for some time now. I'm not sure I want to mess around with IRC, though. I used to have WebRPG on my computer back when it was free. How's OpenRPG, anyway?
I wish my campaign lasted only 6-8 months. It's been going for 3 years and probably isn't half over yet. It's my baby, though, and I can't just drop it (not to mention, the players would kill me).
Now as to why this is a problem...d20 Modern, Mutants & Masterminds, Buffy, EverQuest, 7th Sea, Agone, DragonStar...I want to play these games, but I don't have time to play more than just my game and occasionally in LG. *sigh*
Unfortunately, I haven't had the pleasure of any face-to-face game in, oh, YEARS.
It seems the Lexington, KY area is pretty crappy for anything other than miniatures gaming (though Michael Morrus of Dusk fame is from here, I need to meet that guy). So, I stick to online gaming.
We do pretty good, as far as continuity, but I desperately miss the feel of face-to-face gaming.
(Slight hijack, if you're in the Lexington/Versailles/Frankfort area in Kentucky, LOOK ME UP!)
Yep, I know what you mean Joshua Dyal. I've been having a hard time finding gamers where I live. Even in a college town it seems that gaming isn't that popular. (Most gamers I know already are involved in the school's gaming society, which, unfortunately isn't really that open to me.)
Gaming just isn't that popular in Southern Illinois (a rural area of the country). Moreover, gamers I know have been forced to make gaming take the "back seat" to real life (jobs, family, school, etc.)
My longest running campaign was 6 years...but most of that was in High School and during the 1st two years of college. Then, just as we were just about to finish the campaign, we scattered. They were only 3 or 4 sessions from completing the campaign!
Since then its been a lot of false starts. Finally, Fall of 2001 I get a good group going. The campaign lasts until late last fall. It fell apart because of attendence.
What really kinda bothers me is that in all my near 14 years of gaming, I've NEVER had a character go from 1st level to high levels. I had a bard get to 7th level. I had a figher start at 2nd and go to 4th, then jump to 9th.
Yet I've never had the experience of watching a character go from low levels of power to high levels of power.
I've never played a high level character (except NPCs). So I don't know what high level play is like.
I wanna play a wizard who starts off with measliy magic missile who, after many adventures, casts METEOR SWARM and destroys everything.
But I've been DENIED because all the campaigns I've PLAYED in die out.
