Yet another Sorceror tweaking thread

Sorcerors in 3.5e are in my opinion the only class that wasn’t quite balanced. However, they are hardly the useless classes that (for example) rangers once were in 3.0e. Still, it is hard to refute that they are the weakest of all the ‘core’ classes now, whereas the rest of the classes have achieved as close a balance as they likely ever will.[/i]

The essence of a Sorcerer's weakness is Charisma related - it just doesn't do anything. You could try to compensate this by doling out all kinds of neat abilities, but I am more for fixing Charisma.

You options, while attractive (and I am for the Eschew for believability reasons) make Sorcerer's more alike, they limit choice. No Sorcerer would get the Still Spell feat at lvl 6 when he knows he'll be getting it at lvl 15, 20 or something like that. I am not for that, I like Sorcerers who can choose Still Spell at lvl 6 without feeling penalized.

Edited for spelling.

10th: Improved Counterspell.
This one is probably the one that could be argued fits the 'pattern' the least; but in my mind it suits the sorceror very well. Instead of countering with the exact spell--which there's a slim chance the sorceror even possesses--he can counter with a spell of same school and higher level. When combined with the 5th level Heighten Spell ability, it becomes even more useful. Again, few people argue with this one, and I could say I'm 90% certain I like it as is.
.

I don't know, but doesn't the Heighten Spell make casting it a Full Round Action? And don't Counterspells have to be Readied? And isn't it impossible to Ready Full Round Actions?

One option you might consider for sorcerers - since their CHA seems to be clearly associated with willpower, you could give them a class ability that they use their CHA bonus instead of their WIS bonus when making Will saving throws.

Cheers

Notice that the unbalancing aspect here isn't the fact that the sorceror is able to sling spells without disruption... it's the ridiculously stacking bonuses that are part of the system.

This is simple to handle. Unlike Wizards and other spellcasting types Sorcerers draw the power from within rather than harness existing magical energies. So, for sorcerers casting spells is more like a "spell-like" ability. I would simply go back to old school AD&D and make is so that armor hampers the ability of the magic to flow from the body and being of the Sorcerer to effect his target. A sorcerer casting Magic Missile at someone while the sorcerer in question is wearing armor would be akin to shooting at someone behind bulletproof glass. The magic is flowing but something is in the way. The Wizard can get away with it because the magic isn't coming from within him but from around him. Simply put, make it so Sorcerers are unable to cast spells while wearing armor of any kind.
