BTW 3dfx was eventually bought out by Nvidia. Want to guess where Nvidia's SLI technology came from? ;)

It's not entirely true, though; NVidia's SLI works quite a bit differently than 3dfx's did.

Somewhat yes, but the R&D for it grew out of the 3dfx acquisition. There also quite a few former 3dfx folks who worked on the program.

I picked up the GeForce 6600GT today. Installed it and it's working great. I appreciate all the responses and general conversation here. :)

I'll be here again in another 4-5 years when it's time to upgrade my video card again.
