Yet to be Converted 2 - Monstrous Compendiums

Boz a bunch of folks on the Spelljammer mailing list have converted most of Spelljammer MC's. Check out the site Shattered Fractine. They aren't as good as the Creature Catalog board moderators but they'll do in a pinch :)

Krisnath - I'm working on the Sun and Moon Dragons. The Stellar Dragon is at the Shattered Fractine site. For the Undead treant just change the treant type to Undead From plant and keep the skills and such of the treant. I'm getting pretty good at this coversion stuff. :)

well, the last few posts are pretty much the reason i was debating whether or not to even include the Dragonlance, Spelljammer, and Dark Sun stuff at all. i might as well take those 4 MCs off the list; i'll take care of that soon. i'm not sure what's going on with the Ravenloft stuff. i don't know if Al Qadim has as much of a following as the others, so i may leave it up. the rest of the stuff from the other MCs may or may not have been converted elsewhere, but as far as i'm concerned it's up for grabs, so we may as well take it. :D

so how will this affect the creature catalog with the creatures converted by other websites and people. Willl you add in those creature to the existing ones and make it one huge compedium?

no, i doubt that. we got our stuff, they got theirs. it's a good, fair system. ;)
however, if they wanted to do some sort of collaberative effort... well they'd have to talk to scott about that one. :) not even sure if he'd be interested in that sort of thing or not.

wouldn't it pay off to have the CREATURE catalog still be the biggest and best one where all the MC creatures are located. A central repository for the conversions instead of hodge podge thourghout the net?

like i said, talk to THE MAN. :) not that it's just up to scott either. it's not like you can just grab stuff off of other people's pages and put it on your own. you'd have to ask, and i'm sure people would want credit for the work and all that... and if they have their own site, i'm sure they'd want to keep it there. it's something that could be done, but it would take a lot of work.
i think that all the work on this site should be done by scott, or by erica and myself (as his chosen representatives in this time/space node), since it is after all his site. however, just because someone else did something first, doesn't mean we can't do our own version. i've done several conversions where i found someone else work, and compared the two, making a few changes where i thought someone else had a better idea or handle on the mechanics - the beastman is my most recent conversion where i did that.

The following MC's are from worlds not currently supported by TSR in mainstream D&D. they are largely fan-supported, and many of these monsters have been converted on official fan sites. i personally am not going to convert any of them, but i'm listing them all the same for matters of completeness.

Bussengeist - how to convert

I realize that the Bussengeist from MC10 is a variation of ghost without all the cool abilities, but it seems it could be presented as a Challenge, since its only real effect is to impose a morale penalty to attack rolls (and saves and skill checks, maybe?). I was thinking about it last night after reading the original entry from the Monstrous Compendium RL Appendix. The art was cool, and the flavor text describing the circumstances that created it were awesome. Maybe it could simply be called a "Spirit" with the Aura of Despair ability. It doesn't seem to warrant converting into a template. It has no attack forms, nor does it actually attack. It just wanders into a doomed area and observes what transpires as it shares the black cloud that hangs over its head.

What do you think?
