Wulf, I think I understand the problem. Lets try talking this through again.

No, what Tecknik is trying to do is take a general concept like "36 point buy is better than 26 point buy" and attempt to disprove it by providing stupid examples of how you can balance it out. He's taught you well.

No, that wasn't and still isn't the concept, no matter how much you may want to frame the discussion that way.

And here is the problem. The statement that you are refuting (that 36pt is the same as 25 pt) Is *NOT* what tecknik is saying. No really. That was attributed to him, but is not what he is talking about.

Let me show you what he actually said
I'd say due to the arrangement, the 36 pt array is equal to a 30 point buy, and further that it could be played side-by-side a 25 point buy character without anyone feeling signficantly over/undershadowed. [/bold claim]
And he earlier stated that the array was 16,15,14,13,12,11

So, his assertion is that if a player is given the *array* as above, it will be about equal in 'power' to a 30pt buy done anyway you want. And would be *better* than a 25pt buy, but not significantly overshadow them.

This came out because he said that useing this array, you would not need to up the MM creature CRs, eventhough they were designed for 25pt buy

His actual assertion was that using his array (technically equivalent to 36pt buy) would provide a more well rounded character, more enjoyably playable, yet not much more powerful.

So, funny enough, it is very similar to your wealth example. He is giving 'more points' but defining that it must be used less than 'optimally'. Just like a fighter with a metamagic wand isn't much more powerful, the same fighter with 3 more points of cha isn't much more powerful. But may be more fun to play.

[ps. Crothian, thanks for changing the opening statement. This is the kind of misunderstanding that it can cause otherwise.]

I'm currently playing in an all-18s campaign where the first character is the only one who gets said scores. So now i have a dwarven cleric with 13,10,16,10,17,12 as stats and having fun. The other heros who still have their 18s are more powerful, but I can still support and help a good deal.
