You know what, Knights are fun!

My Hexblade bit the big one so I decided to try out a Knight from PHB II.

It was actually quite cool. I had great hp, great armor (mithral full plate - with the knight's ability to move in medium armor at 30, plus the free endurance feat, it was pretty sweet), and lots of help from buffing spellcasters.

We got attacked by "flying stony demons" that I imagine OOC were gargoyles. My charisma was not great (I put the higher rolls in physical stats) but I was able to use that test of mettle to hold some of them anyhow, and keep them off a spellcaster's back. When the spellcaster foolishly attacked one of the monsters I was "holding", I got an Aoo because of the difficult terrain ability, as the monster left, killing it (it had been previously wounded).

Mind you, I also got to start the game with some oils of bless weapon, which helped a lot. I one-shotted a baddie on a threat that became an auto-crit. :)

So whatever problems other people may have with them, I am personally having a ball with the Knight, and recommend the class to others that want to play a tank.

Just wait till your GM has a bit of fun when your group meets one :).

I'm intending on running a Knight as my PC through Shackled City (possibly multiclassing with Marshal to emphasize some of the commander/diplomat elements the Knight doesn't have) and I'm glad to hear something positive about the class. :)

Hey Particle Man,

Long time no see! How goes the gaming at the club? Myself, I am unfortunately without a group at the moment. RPGs simply are not pupular in my country and have the stigma of being childish.

In any case, I have fond memories of being Sir Anton, the Blue Knight, in your campaign, so I have to agree with your assertion that knights are fun. :)

I've been playing a Knight in the Red Hand of Doom... And I'm having a lot of fun.

There's been at least a few BBEG's that tried to escape and failed, because of Sir Harvey's Test of Mettle, Bulwark of Defense, and Vigilant Defender.

Sorry to hear that things suck in your country. Come back to Canada! :)

Anyhow, the club is going strong. I am in one D&D campaign there (Aampi is running it) and 2 more off-campus (that alternate with each other). Plus, I am running a Savage Worlds game at the club with an ever-expanding roster of players (we are up to 11 - thank God SW is a ruleset that can handle this). Sort of my way of giving something back and testing out SW at the same time - the setting is 50 Fathoms (Fantasy World Pirates/High Seas). Oddly, I thought they would be bloodthirsty pirates and they are becoming...enterprising merchants. Well, as long as they are having fun. :)

We had one in our group for a while: well, he started out a Fighter, but when I got PHBII it fit his character too well to ignore. He was playing a bodyguard who worked for a company founded by the player's previous character, who was charged with protecting the other PCs as they were shareholders as well as friends. ;-)

It worked out quite good in play, though I'll confess we didn't use the Knight version for a long time until that character was retired. But it wasn't for any mechanical flaw, and it's a class I would freely let my PCs check out in the future.

I am happy to hear that the club is going strong and you are all having RPG fun. Aampi's games are fun, but deadly, which probably also accounts for your Hexblade biting the dust. ;)
