I still don't like turning undead. I hate having to reference a chart to use an ability. I don't understand why everything else moved away from this mechanic except turning undead.

Comprehnsion wise, it was AoO at first, but once I broke it down to the basics ("the first 5' are free except for running"), the rest was a snap.

Peeve wise:
CLERICS! Actually, I still haven't gotten over that one. I had a certain fondess for the old spheres (got over that), and I liked how their combat capabilities, skills, etc., varied under some 2e books (the biggie.)

Combat in general, from AOO's to the little things like wrestling. My friends and I have wasted too much time on the new system to claim it went smooth.

Spell changes was irrating after playing a lot of prior editions. This came from the fact, that reading whole spell list at one stand was rather boring and when I started playing, I suddenly notice some spell doesn't work as it 'used to'.

I still hate lookin for undead turning table, same goes for Spell resistance, and dispell/counterspell checks. Wonder why I can't keep them memorized. Turning times was irrating before I made good character sheet, that solved many table-problems.

I have only one complait about AoO's. When I play, I am almost never able to get them, hey I find it hard to get opportunities for my sneak attacks. Sneaky DM-problem.

Ah, and my there is not useful useful 'table-list' of status-changes anywhere. Just that long and inpractical list, hey they made one for feats, why not this. Something I could actually use in DM:s screen.

But that one thing I still can't stand is CRs, ELs and ECLs. Ok, it was great idea, but in practise. :(
Even some monster CR:s are miscalculated before I even add the effect of different party combos (that different strengts and weaknesses part). Also, exp table is sadly limited.

AoO's I got straightaway - Eric's examples on the black pages were quite beneficial. "Within and out of" solved 90% of my problems with it.

The biggest problem I had was falling back on all that old 2E knowledge with the spells. I eventually had to LOOK UP EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THE DARNED SPELLS just to make sure they hadn't changed.

"Disintegrate isn't just a save any more? Fireball doesn't conform to full volume any more? Lightning bolts don't bounce???? Shield spell provides cover? Bigby's hands do WHAT??? Wizards don't have reincarnate any more? WTF???

HARM DOES WHAT!!!!!????"

See what I mean?

My group had little difficulty woth AoO's thanks to having 3 ex-Blood Bowl players in it :)

'threat zone' is identical to 'tackle zone' in Blood Bowl so we picked up on it right away and explained it to the other players.

For me it was ECL/CR and the new spell names.

Although I would have picked grapple in a flat second (this is why I love my new DMs screen though - grapple rules printed right there in front of me! Ahhh Scarred Lands where would I be without you?)

For me it was AoO and grappling.

AoO: I think the way the rules were wrote up contributed alot of the confusion in what should have been a simple combat step. Eric's examples were clearer than the offical examples.

Grappling: Not very defined and leads to circumstances that require some DM arbitration. Not all DMs are comfortable with winging it.

If any kindly person wants to write up a simple, clear explanation of the grappling rules, I'll add them to the combat section of the Black Pages.

I'd do it myself, except that I don't understand them either...

HAHAH THANKS MORRUS FOR BEING HONEST !!!

EVERY single time Grappling happens we have to read the section again... its terrible... one DM I play with doesnt even roll to determine Hold... Grappling is confusing...

We avoid grappling as much as possible... :) After all we dont know the consequences gamewise ...
