In most combat situations (D&D game), what position do you prefer to take?

In most combat situations (D&D game), what position do you prefer to take?

If playing a fighter, in the front, swinging my greatsword and challenging the onrushing foe.

If playing a wizard, in the rear, casting deadly spells and relying on the meat shields to buy me time.

If playing a cleric, in the front, buffed with powerful spells and singing a paean to my god.

If playing a bard, usually hands and knees, begging the DM for an easy fight.

Me? Other offensive magic. Usually 'tactical' sort of stuff, ala illusions.
(Secondarily, the medic of the group.)

non healing support position. I like bards, but they can't do a lot directly in combat, so it tends to be a combination of buffing the others, sniping when I can and flanking if it will help. occasional backup healing as well, but more generlized...

failing that option I went for gurilla tactics because those are fun.
