Your favorite 1st level module?

I can't believe only a couple of votes for Death in Freeport. You could run the whole trilogy if you wanted. The first module has alot of roleplaying opportunities if you play up some of the folks the PCs need to talk to. It is also a mystery and is very simple for the DM to get a handle on.

Saltmarsh, Saltmarsh Uber Alles

Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh for me :) The worst thing about U1 is that you can only play it once. The best thing is U2 & U3.

Definitely Keep on the Borderlands. There's tons of roleplaying potential there, and in the hands of a good DM, it's much more than just a module - it can easily be the basis for an entire campaign.

It's already been pointed out, but I just want to confirm that "Gorgoldand's Gauntlet" is indeed an adventure for four 1st-level PCs. The "Scaling the Adventure" sidebar has suggestions for adapting it for use with PCs of up to 4th level, though. Maybe that's what Rav was thinking of?

I would definitely give a vote to Of Sound Mind. It is scalable up to 4th level, has lots of interesting encounters and quite a few talky opportunities, designed to be used with psionics but has notes for converting it to non-psionic campaigns.

As a DM it was one of the most fun modules to run which I've come across.

You can read about it in my storyhour below (although this was scaled up for a larger party of higher level characters - but it was still a blast!)

Cheers

My favorites...

Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh (and Danger at Dunwater)
Dragons of Despair
Death in Freeport
The Longest Night
Palace of the Silver Princess
The Arena of Thyatis
The Sentinel (and the Gauntlet)
Legacy of the Liosalfar (Dungeon)
Thirds of Purloined Vellum (Dungeon)
Grudwilla's Stew (Dungeon)

These were also good low-level adventures...

Castle Amber
The Assassin's Knot
Siege of the Kraytis Freehold (Dungeon)

My favorite 1st Levels are:

The Sunless Citadel

Sinister Secret of Salt Marsh

Of Sound Mind

And how could anyone not like Cult of the Reptile God. It had role-playing, mystery and a cool dungeon crawl.

After reading the above post it brought back some great memories when I ran my group through The Seige of Kratis Freehold.

Another vote for Of Sound Mind. It's a great adventure, and it can vary from high role-playing to a lot of combat, depending on her playing style.

And if you want an idea of the adventure, check out my .sig :)

L1 The Secret of Bone Hill and B2 Keep on the Borderlands were two of my all time favorites as well. I picked up the Silver Aniversery Return to the Keep just for the nostaliga of the original.

If you go for Burning Plague, it's not super-RP-intensive. However, there are some kobolds in it who can attempt to negotiate their way out of trouble, and you could RP there.

Of Sound Mind is chock full of roleplaying goodness.

Not to sound like apompous twit, but in my experience most "adventures" are just a base to do RPing around, nearly any adventure can be tweaked, twisted and just plain tortured to create a good story, and most good players can turn a bowl of dog food into an adventure/RPing experience.

Except Palace of the Silver Princess (Basic D&D - oldish) - Protectors that are little green faerie men, princesses etc etc -YEUCCH.

And in regard to Keep on the Borderland, yes it can be made into a proper game with a bit of work.

Thats my bit.
