Watching VH1 recently discuss Guns n Roses, I was struck by how cool it would be to play an adventuring party based on them. I'd want to be Slash, because he's got that cool "you can't see my face because I've got way too much hair" thing going on.
I was then reminded of U2's video for their song 'Elevation,' which was on the Tomb Raider sound track, I think. In the video, there's a good version of U2, and an evil version, and at the end they battle at each other with blasts of sound. Like some sort of vicious song/countersong battle going on. A party of bards. Kinda cool.
Obviously, not all bands would be bards, since most bands don't go for the whole 'inspire' angle. A lot nowadays go more for the "shake your groove thang" angle, or the "I'm too angsty to live" angle, which would be paladins and rangers, respectively. Most metal bands would just be fighters and rogues, with Rob Zombie being some sort of cleric of Orcus or something.
Bands tend to have really cool personality dynamics, and I think they'd make great basises (bases?) for NPC adventuring parties. Rather than your classic four-person fighter, rogue, cleric, wizard, you might have:
* Paladin (John)
* Sorcerer (George)
* Bard (Paul)
* Fighter (Ringo)
You guys and gals have any ideas for other groups?
