Your favorite class and race and other things.

For the others, What exactly is "swashbuckling"?

And how do you see that elven sourcorer is better? It seems to me that most of them are so high on other games form a computer that all they want to do is slash and smash for a while. If I do that, it seem to get it out of the system, and they start playing somthing that they are better at, or enjoy more.

Just a few fun questions.

1 what is your favorite combination in class and race?

2 what would you suggest for new players to be?

3 what is your favorite fighting style/weapon?

I dont know what my fav. class and race are, probably human fighter.

I usually say that a new player should start as Human(don't worry about abillity changes) and Fighter or Barbarian.(Simple slash and hack style with an NPC as somthing smarter to keep them in line.)

I like to be smart, but I'm really not, so I usually wind up as the brute in the groupe.

1) Well, it varies. My default is "human ranger/barbarian," but I can enjoy almost anything with a little effort. Any time I play a particular character type for too long, I find myself wanting to play something else for a while.

2) Depends on their personality, but "human fighter" is usually a safe bet.

3) Dual-wield with some variety of blades, usually longsword + shortsword, but double longswords once the BAB is high enough to take the hit. Mathematically speaking, it's not the most effective, but it just appeals to my psychology for some reason. I play Ping Pong with two paddles, too, when I can find an opponent who'll let me.

I am a curmudgeonly dwarven fighter at heart.

2 what would you suggest for new players to be?

Whatever appeals to them. It is a game and it's about fun. Why artificially restrict a new player? They'll pick it up soon enough.

3 what is your favorite fighting style/weapon?

Axe & shield high brother.

1) human fighter.

2) any race is ok. sorcerers are easy, fighters are easy. classes that have to prep spells, or which require massive ammount of skill useage, can be very difficult for new players to really understand...

3) polearm + mobilty + spring attack + combat reflexes + high dex. things go SPLAT.

For new players, I encourage them to play whatever they think would be fun. They'll figure out the rules.

For myself, I used to love Elven Thief/Mages (2e), and later Rogues and Wizards, but now I've drifted over to Human Paladins and Clerics. Dunno why. I like playing a hero in the truest sense, now, I guess. I used to be a two weapon fanatic, but i've drifted over to the sexy, sexy (and er...totally non-Freudian) Greatsword. So huge. So powerful. Uh...what were we talking about? :p

I like playing the rogue that is anything but a traditional thief. I like playing the treasure hunting dwarf rouge, the swindling human priest rogue or may favorite the smuggling pirate rogue, perferrably halfling and patterned after Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Carribean.

Ok, I always thoght that it would be easyer as explained in earlyer posts. But ther's still that little qeustion, what exactly is "Swashbuckling"?

re: newbies

If they wanna do magic, I recommend the Warlock. It requires the least paperwork of any magic-using class. It is found in Complete Arcane.

If they wanna do "hitting things" I recommend the Barbarian. Having too many feats will just confuse them unless you pick the feats, so I would shy away from fighter. Here the half-orc race is best. one less feat (and some less skill points) to worry about, and you have darkvision so you don't have to worry about light sources. Just get a greatsword and go to town. Help them with their "rage" stats and "fatigued" stats, though, and give some advice like "don't rage until you fight something bigger than you are or more numerous than the party is."

If they wanna do sneaky stuff, I recommend the Scout. Complete Adventurer.

Personally, I like the Warlock. My favourite race varies, although human is usually up there. I like half-orc for "hitting things" though. :)

1) Dwarven or Human Cleric.

2) In 3e, I'd advise a completely new gamer to stick with fighter, any race. Less auxiliary stuff to worry about and like spell memorization, checking for traps, skills, etc. For C&C, just about anything, with the exception of Paladin and assassin.

3) a single-handed weapon and a shield.
