Ok, I always thoght that it would be easyer as explained in earlyer posts. But ther's still that little question, what exactly is "Swashbuckling"?

I'm going to go on a limb and describe swashbuckling or swashbuckler as a person whom is very agile and swift, opting for finesse over pure power. There is a Swashbuckler class in the complete warrior, but I"ve had fighters and rogues as "swashbuckling' type. They have a bravado about them that airs of hero or anti-hero. It's very distict. The swashbucklers I've played always are creative in their attacks and actions. Even showoffish

My first character was a bard, and before I started playing, the dm told me that he wanted all players to read their class ins and outs carefully. My suggestion is talk to the player see what they like to play. I don't know if i'd have continued with d and d if i had to play a fighter and i hated it. Most important thing is getting a grasp over how the character works. Only allow them to use characters from the phb, because that is the ONE book they will need to learn in and out. I find that when you introduce other books you can swamp the player. My GF began by playing a pyschic warrior, a mistake made by me. She adapted well and didn't use any pyschic powers until WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL into the campaign (adventure 15). Then I got super evil and told her i was replacing hte magic system and pyschic system with the elements of magic system, I think I"m still getting cursed out about that one.

In other words, make it easy for hte new player by introducing as few source materials as possible at first.

Just a few fun questions.

1 what is your favorite combination in class and race?

2 what would you suggest for new players to be?

3 what is your favorite fighting style/weapon?

1) Currently, Kalashtar Psion or Psion/Rogue. I also play with frequency - Wizard, Bard, Paladin, Ranger, and Rogue. Mostly human or elf.

2) In 3.x D&D, there is plenty of complexity in any character concept so I don't suggest anything. I ask them what they want to be able to do with their character and then help them learn how to do it.

3) I tend to prefer the shoot and scoot techniques whether it be using a spellslinger or an archer.

Swashbuckling is just as much about doing things with the right attitude and proper style as it is about supporting mechanics. You can be a swashbuckler in full plate, you just need to do things with a sense aplomb and savoir faire and other little-used words.

Very True. However I"m a little iffy on the plate mail swashbuckler (i just see the character as always having a good dex and good physical skills). But it is primarily attitude. I'd describe an attack as
"Leonardo raises up his sword and tosses it from hand to hand before spinning around, catchign it and lunging in with a swipe across the demons collar bone for a 27 hit. "

" My character prances to the side and watches your fist slide by his body. He chuckles at your inept abillities" DC 24

Tied between Human Sorcerer and Elven Rogue/Wizard.

2) what would you suggest for new players to be?

What they think might be fun, from hearing a short summary about the choices.

3) what is your favorite fighting style/weapon?

Spellcasting/Magic.

Next up would be Archery/Composite Longbow;
and after that mixed 1Hd/2Hd style/Bastard Sword (or Longsword).

Favorite class and race combo? I don't have one.

As far as character race goes, I prefer to play humans or lizardfolk - elves and dwarves bore me, what D&D has done to gnomes and kenderlings makes me cringe, and I don't believe in half-races.

As far as classes, I play whatever strikes my fancy at the moment or whatever hole the party needs filled.

For new players? Whatever sounds fun to them.

Favorite fighting style? Depends entirely on the character.

1 what is your favorite combination in class and race?
Shifter rogue

2 what would you suggest for new players to be?
human fighter

3 what is your favorite fighting style/weapon?
short sword/short sword

I dont know what my fav. class and race are, probably human fighter.

I usually say that a new player should start as Human(don't worry about abillity changes) and Fighter or Barbarian.(Simple slash and hack style with an NPC as somthing smarter to keep them in line.)

I like to be smart, but I'm really not, so I usually wind up as the brute in the groupe.[/QUOTE]
