Your first min-max trick with d20 Modern

True, but it still doesn't change the cost of initial purchase, just that you spend less over the long haul.

Professional hobby shootists frequently make the leap to learn how to reload cartridges; the cost of equipment and reload materials and training actually turns out cheaper in the long run if you are used to firing thousands of rounds on a regular basis.

Also, you will need to replenish your arrows sometimes, not because of damage, so much as sometimes your target runs away, and takes his arrows with him! Arrows these days are meant for hunting animals, not men. :)

Well, i'm sorry, but this one's a wealth based one.

20 level Charismatic 10/ Personality 10

18 wisdom to start.

Profession (actor) at max ranks

Final wealth score (without any purchaces over DC 15 and without profession rolls): 69

(13 (2 at 1st, 5 from charismatic levels, 5 from regular feats(had to take reknown for personality adv. class)) windfall feats(+39), +8 from personality at 4th and 8th, +6 from a final 21 wisdom, +5 from 23 ranks in profession, +6 from starting occupation, 8 on 2d4 wealth roll at 1st level)

There is a more interesting uber-character that can be made with the 20th level Dedicated 10/Charismatic 10

The Bluff-O-Matic

Assume he is a standard array character with a 15 Cha and boosts it at each level, making it 20, for a +5 bonus.

Bluff is a class skill from his occupation, and I believe it is a charismatic class skill, so he gets a +1 bonus. He maxes out his bluff skill. Among his Dedicated talents is empathy (can add dedicated level to bluff, amongst other things). Among his Charismatic talents is Fast-Talk (can add charismatic level to bluff, among other things, when lying etc).

Assume that he took Skill Emphasis(bluff) at some point. I'll not bother with any possible synergies right now.

So this character, without any particular maximising of attributes beyond what an NPC could easily expect has a bluff modifier (when he's got to know someone, and is lying to them) of

+23 ranks
+5 Cha bonus
+3 skill emphasis
+10 dedicated levels
+10 charismatic levels

= +51. If he takes 10 he gets a score of 61, he can't avoid getting at least 52 (even if he rolled a 1!)

Wouldn't it be better to add in some Occultist so you can use that Wealth to make a bunch of magical items?

Level 2 character
Base Wealth Score 2d4 (average 5)
Windfall Feat 3 times (+9 wealth score)
Profession(Waiter/Waitress) 1 rank (+1 Wealth)
Student (+1 Wealth)

One problem... you can only get the benefit from one profession.

d20M pg. 32

"A hero may hold other jobs as his career unfolds, but the benefits of a starting occupation are only applied once, at the time of character creation."

Actually, Student is his background, waiter is his profession. Different things, so they do stack.

just to be clear, student is his starting occupation and Waiter the specialty of his Profession skill.

semantics are all-important! :p
