Your ideal group?

What is your ideal group? In terms of in-game and out of game. In my ideal group we would all be very into the game, and there would not be much OOC talk. My character would not be the center of attention, but would help out where he could. There would also be little to no arguements about the rules.

My ideal group would be one where everyone got along well, and understood each others expectations. For instance, while I am into everyone staying in character and not disrupting the game often with non game chat, I also would be uncomfortable in a group where everything was 100% in character and no one felt comfortable enough with each other to joke around at appropriate times.

I like a group where every tries to play their character and combines roll playing with role playing. I like when people get into their characters, but not so much where they become judgemental and snippy if someone breaks character to ask a question once in a while about a rule. People should know the basic rules, but I learned as I went along and have no problem with others doing so, although , when someone doesn't know what dice to roll for their damage every game for 12 weeks, that might get old real fast.

I guess, for me the ideal group lies somewhere in the middle of the "die hard in character no out of game talk group" and the "nothing is serious let's stop the game every 10 minutes, rules; what rules? group".

I'll keep what we have, which varies from 50-80% in-game and 20-50% out-of-game depending upon what is going on. It seems to work well, as we are coming up to our 900th weekly game in 21+ years, and 6 of the 7 players have been with the group for most of that.

Rules? You mean we're supposed to use rules with this game?

Seriously though, with the exception of one power-player that gamed with us a few years back we've never had any real problem with rules. Each DM uses their own variations and the players accept those without arguing.

A group of friends out of game as well as in. A group of people that are there to have fun and try to make sure everyone has fun, not just himself.

The ideal group is one that fits together people with a simeler sense of humor and other things like it, my group of roleplayers tend to get into character and still joke around ooc at appropiate times, only a few in our group are tedious to be around(sorry this is a games club with around 50 members about half of these are roleplayers not that all play the same game) one who reads the rules as what is said like the Weapon finnese stating that you can not use a sheild but he fill that he's quite in his rights to weild two weapons he completly blanked on the must have one hand free part of the feat. There are other rules he bends as much as posible.

Hehehe, now that I have DMed. I can see why so many people now want a rules light system. It is bad enough that I have a cetain player who demands realism, yet gets rid of all the "bull:):):):)" languages as he calls them(I DM the Forgotten Relams).

And the Utz chips and onion dip would be everflowing, and a gypsy bellydancer would come in to pour my whiskey when there was only an hour left in the game.

Seriously, though...my ideal group is my buddies, all out to roll some dice and have a good time.
