Your non-WotC books: will you buy 'em again if they convert to 3.5?

I'm sorely disappointed that the MM isn't laid out with one monster per page. The background lines in the PHB are still there.

Correcting things like this were the only reason I was planning to buy the new edition. Thanks for the heads up. I will avoid them now.

Well, I'll be replacing the Core rulebooks, of course. Probably not right away, and not all at once, but eventually.

I'll be pouncing on the re-release of the Creature Catalog.

Also looking forward to The Quintessential Chaos Mage to replace my copy of Encyclopaedia Arcane: Chaos Magic. The latter is a great idea, but has some weaknesses. It'll be good to see the revised edition, especially since it should be 3.5 compatible.

Probably pick up the Ravenloft DMG, which will provide updates to that setting. Hopefully they revise the monster book for that setting as well (haven't picked it up, thankfully).

The only other thing I've got is some Dragonstar books, which really won't be affected that much. I'm probably going to convert all my DS stuff to use d20 Modern rules and D&D 3.5 classes, from the SRD. So, no real revision necessary.

I'm planning on buying the PHB and the DMG. Based on what I've read about the MM, I am no longer certain I'll buy it. As for D20 books, I have too much money invested in my collection right now to even consider updating, even were such available. Honestly, most of the books I use a lot don't need much in the way of changes.

The more I hear about 3.5, the more ambivalent I become. So I'm not interested in throwing the towel in on my old core books just yet.

I don't think so.
I will get the core 3 due to being a pawn and having to have my collection complete :D

But as for other books ruleswise I will convert on my own style wise I will just live with it.

Absolutely not. Heck, I'm not even going to convert my old stuff - it works just fine as is. (BAB? Check. Skills? Check. d20? Check.)

Who cares if a couple of NPCs have more/less skill points, or feats/prestige classes/whatever that they don't meet the prerequisites anymore? Not me.

New Books

If you play as often as most players your books are really looking shabby by about 3 years, so since I am going to repurchase the books anyway, why not buy updated ones? From the standpoint of someone who has played for 24 years, not updating the books is by far worse than updating them every 3 or 4 years. I say bravo!!

Amen Buttercup,

We got more in common than just Fin and Thabi's adventures. I went a step further and canceled my 3.5 preorder. The more I hear, the more I just say 'who cares'. They are making a new addition to cover what I consider house rules. I already have modified my 3.0 campaign, why buy new books just to modify them?

I find that I don't even use my core books that much. I only use the MM for the some illos. I don't use the DMG at all (I run low magic and have changed some things so it winds up shelved). I rarely use the PHB since I have spells and such in a binder and I use generation software for characters and such.

As a DM, I have not even carried a core rulebook to a game for over 4 months!

Who needs these fancy new books that aren't really that new?

Mike
