Your perspective in the game

My perspective while playing the games is always third-person, with varying angles like we're watching a movie. Often we'll describe a certain camera angle or trick of the camera to augment tension or excitement in a scene we're playing.

As far as describing character actions, since we're often playing more than one PC in a game, we always talk in third person, nearly always saying which character is talking or moving or what have you.

It varies, especially as I dm about 86% of the time.

When I play, I almost always (I'd guess over 95% of the time) refer to my character in the 1st person- "I'll cast magic missile at the darkness," for instance.

I usually do 3rd person over the shoulder view but occasionally zoom to first person persepctive when I want to immerse in the detail or pan to side view during combat

One refers to ones self in 3rd person as one should:)

I'm going to have to chime in as movies as well. This might have something to do with the fact that I started out DMing, which has the feel of directing to it with all the NPCs, instead of starting out as a player, who you can really immerse yourself into. Close up, pans, and such make up how I see things, not just any third person view.

Even when playing, I like to think about expressions, how my character looks, etc. so I'll envision all those things as well, leading away from a first person view of the situaion, which I don't really ever envision.

I also think in a fair number of still shots like Jyrdan. I blame comics/manga for that. ;)

I usualy dont vizualize much for me its more auditory the back ground sounds and such, when I do vizualize it is usualy of the seen without the characters, maybe the "extras in the back ground but usualy just voice for the pcs and most non monster npc except for combat which is third person, I guess we just dont describe or pcs visualy much so the just dont show up in my imagination often. But then I almost never visualize in my imagination it is all audio to me, spoken discriptions and the like. Wierd huh?

Does the use of minis affect how you visualize the game? The "imagination vs. minis" concept spoken of whenever someone talks about using minis in a game made me think of this.

And on a further tangent what about dreams? first, third, color, black and white, stills, realistic hollywood, fantasy, and do you see and read text? I've been told this is impossible but I do it all the time. Does that make me (more)wierd?

Minis, to me, are an aid to visualization. This is in part to creating more interactive environments since using a dry erase board, which I described in the Minis and Grids poll thread. Since getting the dry erase board, battles and fights, for instance, have gotten more interesting, as I have started drawing in more interesting obsticles and props for PCs and NPCs to use alike. Outside of battle, I often draw up environments as I describe them. Perhaps its just the focus that drawing gives me, but I find myself able to create more with it. That's personal taste, however, I realize.

Re: Dreams - Third person, full color (relative to my color blindness), fully readable. [/end tangent]
