Having was^H^H^Hspent lots of time on these boards these last month, and especially on these last few days, I've noticed a trend. I wonder if that trend is an illusion coming from a vocal minority, or something more serious.

What is your opinion about magic-users (arcane, divine, and psionics alike) in D&D ? What would you want to see made for them in 3.5 ? Or 4, barring that.

I have calmed down in my view of arcane magic. I no longer think wizards should be killed on sight. We should give them a fair trial and then kill them.

PS Seriously, I think the magic system is more or less fine.

Ah, but what about clerics and psions and their ilk ?

Bah! Freak...

;)

It's D&D. It should have D&D magic. If you want something else no one is going to stop you from playing something else or altering it heavily.

Really, I think far too many people perhaps want 3.5 to twist the game into something to suit them... in my opinion it should stay D&D at it's core.

Now, if the question was "Should there be a lengthy and deep section in the DMG about adjusting the magic level of the game / campaign world and what this affects." then the answer would be a resounding YES!

You can't try psions, they could control the jury.... with their minds! Better to just lock 'em in a small room with a TV endlessly playing the Ghostbusters movies next time they use one of thoes wonky ectoplasmic effects...

Clerics? Burn 'em! Heretics one and all!

I'll remind it: by spellcaster, I mean anyone with spells. Not only wizards and sorcerers, but also cleric, druid, paladin, psion, psychic warrior, ranger, shaman, shugenja, sohei, wu-jen, whatever !

Mages are scarey...at mid level and higher. Around third level....hee hee hee

Don't forget magic dead zones when confronting fighters....or evens psions

It's fine.
