Your Spellcasting Wish For 3.5 ?

What's Your Opinion on Spellcasters ?

  • They are too powerful and they should get seriously nerfed. Down with highmagic, we want low-magic !

Ice storm, as a wizard evocation, should do more damage than a lower level lightning bolt or fireball cast at minimum casting level.

I think your poll answers are slanted. I would actually like a slightly lower approach to magic, like 2e had. Actaully, I'd like that as an option in the DMG.

This would severely change the system and would require dual CRing of monsters for one thing. Perhaps a restriction on spellcasting for wizards could do the trick (durations for each spell brought down one step, Fly reduced to 30 feet clumsy movement with an improved fly later to stop the Superman effect... scrying literally not being good enough to teleport, and it actually lsiting it as such... the list goes on)

I think I am going to write my own D&D/D20 game as soon as I get back to the Netherlands. It will be heavily D&D based, but should be closer to low magic without immediatly going all the way to Tolkien or something. More like a 30 page house rule document.

Super freak, super freak, super freaky!

Mages kick ass, assuming they have the spells memorized. Mages are overpowered if the party rests every 2 encounters, but balanced if you run them right.

I should seek professional help...

Red gamecat needs prozac badly.

I have calmed down in my view of arcane magic. I no longer think wizards should be killed on sight. We should give them a fair trial and then kill them.

PS Seriously, I think the magic system is more or less fine.

I like the magic system too but i would like an optional low magic system for well, uh, low magic games

Mages are not broken, but are not perfect. Nerf a few spells and eliminate a few more and add to some others. Magic levels are easy to deal with. Don't like PCs teleporting everywhere, delete the spell or change its perameters.

I'm not making any spellcasting wishes for 3.5 until I find out how they're handling wishes. If they go all old school, need-to-hire-a-lawyer-to-proofread-your-wish-before-you-make-it-if-you-want-to-live about it, there's no way I'm making a wish.

i can't believe anyone wants to actually go back tot he days of race specific classes. elves the only casters? terrible idea.

Excuse me, but the poll is broken.

Your poll should include:

- I like spellcasters and magic, and the two concepts should remain as they are.
- I really like spellcasters and magic, and their roles should be expanded.
- I love spellcasters and magic, and their roles should be greatly expanded.
- I think spellcasters and magic should be shifted to be the preeminent force in D&D.
- I think the fighter class should be eliminated or merged with the spellcaster, and the spellcaster and magic should be the preeminent force in D&D.

If you had done that, your poll would be balanced.
Your anti-mage and anti-magic bias, is well noted.

Since I am pro-mage and pro-magic, I cannot vote in your broken poll.
