http://www.geotimes.org/feb05/NN_mummytar.html TarMummies, baby.

Mean, disease ridden and sticky!

All kinds of fun- When the disease starts to take hold you cry tears of tar, your movement is slowed by your feet sticking to the ground, and you become very flammable(let someone else hold the torch)

They could also leave a trail that slows movement for anyone who walks where they have in the past day, giving them a stronger hand in the fight.

The good thing about a Stone Age game--don't have to worry about your weapons getting stuck to Adherers.

I had just thought of this...it fits perfectly:

"Theres nothing new under the sun, just old things that have been forgotten."

Hmm, it also helps to explain the mummy's traditional vulnerability to fire. ;)

I too loved adherers- I think they were the first monster I used after I acquired the 1e Fiend Folio back in the day. :)
