Your thoughts on Adventures for 3rd Ed

Ring of Thieves. I doubt many people know of this Game Mechanic module but it is a great city based low level one. It has some tough situations and the PCs can get in over their heads or do something stupid and get a TPK. It is a great investigation with much more role playing then combat. Rodney Thompson wrote it!!

How scalable is it? I've been considering Ptolusizing it.

It is written for the Games Mechanics city (Liberty I think it's called: Temple Quarter, Thieves Quarter) and I ran it perfectly in Sharn. It took some work as I had to decide what districts the different encounters would be since time is a factor but it worked very well. I made a few changes to fit into the city and campaign.

World's Largest Dungeon. - while it has some issues, is a lot of fun to play and run. Honestly, I think the biggest problem with the WLD is lack of polish. The basic ideas are there, but, they're rough and need the kinks worked out. But the reward for the work is really worth it IMHO.

Oops, I just realized that you're asking about 3.5 adventures so City of the Spider Queen is out.

It doesn't matter - I just edited the post title so people can include 3rd edition adventures too No reason to restrict it since they're not actually different editions!

So City of the Spider Queen is a fine choice!

To be honest, when I started this thread I hadn't actually considered Dragon Magazine adventures. I always bought the mag on a causual basis (due to storage restrictions) when there was an adventure I fancied. I'd certainly be interested to hear what one-off adventures from Dungeon are highly considered - I might go and pick up some back copies

What about Rappan Athuk (or it's Reloaded cousin)? I always hear people raving about it, so for that have how does it compare to the other adventures? A classic in waiting?

The Sunless Citadel is a classic in the great old-school manner. My group had a lot of fun with this one.

I agree. And the same for The Forge of Fury.

From Necromancer Games There are a good bunch that should become classics. Topping my list is The Grey Citadel, Lost City of Barakus, Rappan Athuk, Tomb of Abysthor, Doom of Listonshire, Vault of Larin Karr, Hall of the Rainbow Mage, and others. However, the popularity of Necromancer has never seemed to be great, so i suspect they will be popular in the same manner as old Judges Guild stuff.

Dungeon has definitely had a bunch of good ones over the years.

I like Goodman DCC's, but none of the ones I have used, which is only about half a dozen or so, have really "come alive" for me. They have been fun, challenging, and entertaining, but just haven't had that "special" element to them. Now I own about 24 of the DCC's and some of them read to be really cool, but I haven't taken my campaigns in directions that would allow them to be used.

The setting, DCC 35 is pretty frickin good, though. Plus I am looking forward to Whiterock.

I also like a lot of the Kalamar mods, such as the Coin Trilogy, and a few others.

Paradigm put out a few that may become classics.

Green Ronin definitely did with some of the Freeport modules.

I think Giants Skull and NeMoran's Vault by Fiery Dragon have a shot as well.

Anyways, thats all my tired brain can think of at 3 AM.

Treebore and I have a lot of similar tastes in modules (except he has more of them than I do).

The Grey Citadel is a great module - it has a wonderful dungeon crawl and the city is well-executed. Doubt it will be a 'classic' though, but only time will tell.

Lost City of Barakus really should be a classic. I'm running it now (with additional adventures) and there's lots to do. Indeed, even the Urban adventures presented could be a Campaign in and of themselves, without taking to the dungeons!

However, I'd suggest that NeMoren's vault deserves a shot at Classicness, it has a great McGuffin for getting first-level characters involved, there's a wonderful dungeon crawl, a real sense of story in the proceedings and can be deadly if played badly. I've run it twice and each time it was well-received.

I haven't played any of Age of Worms (yet) but I suspect that The Whispering Cairn is (probably) the best first-level scenario for 3.x written.
