Your thoughts on character classes

I have something of a dilemma and am hoping to get some thoughts and advice from this august group. I am going to be playing in a Ravenloft campaign and we will be creating characters this Sunday (3-3-02) and I'm at a loss as to what to play. I had a really cool concept for a cleric building off our previous Ravenloft campaign characters (all of whom met a tragic end when they picked a fight with a lich and a vampire) but when it came down to the wire it just didn't grab me like I'd hoped. Just so you know where I'm coming from, (all 3E classes) I've played a Human Fighter 15, a 1/2 Orc Monk 17, and a Human Rogue/Fighter/Kensei 3/12/1. So you can see I've pretty much got a feel for the in your face combat approach and now I'm looking for a change, mostly so I don't get type cast :).
What I'm hoping to get from y'all are your thoughts, what particular class you found challenging, interesting, entertaining, whatever and why. I definately don't want a rant session about why one class is better than another.

First off, never pick a fight with a lich, or a vampire, much less both.

Second, If you like fighters, but are looking for something a little different, make a Musketer(sp?) type character. Put high ranks in Preform, tumble, balance, ect. Have feats like Wepon focus-Rapier, wepons specialization-rapier, dodge, ext. When you fight, do cool things like swing down from the rafters on a rope, and taunt your enimy. It's fun, different, and fits the Ravenloft time period.

I am playing a thief/psionic fighter right now. I almost think the next character I make will be a straight psionic fighter. It is pretty fun buffing yourself, then whooping butt.

I should probably state that I am not particularly familiar with Ravenloft, but here are my 2 cents worth...

My Wizard/Alienist just got a Psychic Warrior cohort, and I agree, they are very fun to play.

I'm not much of a fan of Paladins, I would personally go for a Fighter/Cleric.

And if I were to make a Ravenloft character, I would probably go for a fighter/thief. They just seem to be so interesting and flexible...
