I got 9 out of 10; good thing I'm lucky because I only knew 4 of them and I knew what a couple others weren't. I'm going to have to use mulct for my next rogue name. That was the word I missed also.

This poll would seem fairly obvious. I think the amount of reading that most dedicated gamers do can't help but strengthen their vocabulary.

8 out of 10 and missed the same two as Danny, 'fiacre' and 'mulct'.

8/10 on that quiz. My vocabulary is pretty good, but I usually don't use a lot of it. For one thing, I learned most of it through reading and haven't the faintest idea how to pronounce a lot of words I know.

A very secluded friend of mine is like that x10. There are many words I consider quite common that he pronounces wrong, because he learned many words through reading. Elite is one he still can't get right.

I got 8/10. I think I'm more adroit than my peers. Not that it's important to me much anymore, I've found simplier words to often be the most effective.

"esker" & "mulct" were the ones on which I guessed incorrectly. I don't think that I was actually familiar with any of them, though, to be honest, but was only able to puzzle through the etymologies or eliminate funny answers for most.

Not that great of a test. I wouldn't have scored anywhere near as high as I did if they were really picking obscure words. It's biased in favor of rare words in current usage and common words in specialized academic usage. (any geologist knows what an esker is, for example)

I scored an 8/10 on that quiz, though I hardly think that's a good test of vocabulary. There were perhaps only two words there that I actually knew, but I'm fairly good at learning through context so I was able to match up the words with the proper definitions.

Generally I don't see a need to speak or write in such a manner. I suppose if you are trying to impress...but even then it just comes off as pretentious.

In high school, my friends told me that I was the only person they knew that could insult anyone, adults included, without using profanity and without allowing the insulted to realize exactly what I was saying about them.

DM

But ... what is the point of insulting them then?
