You're a 3.5 Conjurer. What are your opposed schools?

I'd give up Evocation and Enchantment.

Mainly because, Evocation is a fairly boring school over all and Enchantment has quite a lot of 'save negates' type spells. I have nothing against Enchantment, but Necro and Illus have several spells that I'd hate to be without. I simply can't think of any for Enchantment that rise above 'nice to have, but not necessary.'

I play a 3.5 conjurer, and I gave up Evocation and Necromancy. I'd probably be better off if I had given up Enchantment instead of Necromancy (I almost never use Enchantment spells), but giving up Necromancy made sense for my character concept.

The only thing I'm really annoyed to have lost with Evocation is Contingency.

Now, Spell Focus: Conjuration isn't a bad feat. Cloudkill, Glitterdust, Planar Binding, Planeshift.. Unlike a druid, a wizard actually has a decent number of spells that benefit from the Spell Focus. The Augmented Summoning is must-have, though.

The main problem with Summon Monster is that since it's a full-round action, I've found myself using it less and less at higher levels -- my party usually needs a buff spell or a mass disabling spell now; I usually can't afford to lose a round bringing in more muscle.

Of course, I get mocked for how I should've been an evoker whenever I botch a Teleport. There's been a couple occasions where a session got extended another 10-30 minutes because I'd rolled a 100...

I would give up Illusion and Enchantment.

Illusion because it really only has 1 good spell Invisibility and that's been nerfed to uselessness. Additionally the whole school gets countered too easily by True Seeing and Blindsight.

Enchantment because too many things are unaffected by mind affecting effects, too many low level spells counter enchatment's most potent effects (eg Protection from <align>). Additionally the probability of failure for enchantment spells is really high due to nerfed spell DCs. Even if the target fail their save, the enchantment effect is limited and nerfed (eg Hold Person/Hold Monster).

One school is without any doubt Evocation.

The other you can pick from Enchantment, Illusion or Necromancy, tho, as much as I like it, I'd pick Enchantment, since Illusion just has too much synergy and Necromancy has False Life, which alone is enough reason to keep the school.

Bye

Play (True) Neutral. :)

Rav, who knows how to min-max alignment.

Unfortunately the Protection from <align> spells defeat domination and charm(?) effects despite alignment. The alignment bit only refers to the save bonus, ac bonus and hedging of the <align> summoned creatures.

Unlike the Enchanter thread, I'm going with a Conjurer. Besides Necromancy, what would be the other school to drop?
I would in fact suggest to keep Necromancy, to make some archetypal "necromancer" ala Elric the Necromancer who summons demons. I would drop Transmutation and Illusion.
