You've all been imagining these boards...

I've got one for you - this is rich.

I was working operations here, basically keeping an eye on things. We had a power outage, so I had to scramble to get everything properly shut down before the UPSes went out.

After everything came back up, the network wasn't working right. Half the plant couldn't get on. I called my bosses in and went home(end of 12 hr shift).

Came in the next morning, bosses still there. They'd tracked the problem down to the router, which is covered by a service contract to another company. A large, blue computer company. Anyway, first it took five hours of argueing to convince them that the problem was the router. It clearly wasn't backed up and configured correctly - when the power went out it went back to the default.

Their explaination? They insisted that I crawled back behind our equipment racks in the dark and switched the cables around on the router when the power went out. Yeah, that was the first thing on my list.

My boss told him to fix it and hung up on him.

My sympathies, Morrus. If your host is anything like the technical support I have to deal with, it's clear that their front-line people are basically forced to jump at any possible reason that pops up to reject your call and assert that they can't do anything for you -- no matter how insane the rationalization. This does sound like a lot of tech support stories I've heard and experienced.

You've just been imagining that I've been posting here.

In reality I went on to join a Swiss polka band and wear Leiderhosen chaps at gay sports bars.

Hmm...

Why don't you just keep on imagining...

You know, I *really* didn't need that image just now....

I've worked tech support in the past so I know what this can be like from both sides.

I have had bosses in the past tell me that is was most important to get through a lot of calls even if it ment giving people BS excuses. They just wanted a good call count to look good for the higher ups.

Then there have been times I've delt with bad tech support. Which just make me shudder.

i'm still having trouble getting on the boards. Since the intial shut down last night it seems like half the time i can't even get en world to come up let alone get to the message boards.

Anyone else?

well, it's possible that CIHost is still having router issues. I haven't noticed any problems with the connection, but we'll see.

is anyone else having any issues?

I should have know i was dreaming when people started posting that WotC put out a good, balanced, and semi-well edited splatbook, Masters of the Wild.

Then i had this nightmare they let Ryan Dancey go.

They changed their story eventually - in the end it turned out the server crashed. Or so they now say.

That seems pretty consistent with their original position doesn't it ;)?!? It's just the Transitive Property of Stupidity at work, Morrus. Nothing more nothing less, so don't feel too bad.

BTW, are we going to get avatars back, or did they permanently disappear when the Boards were cancelled?
